I've always considered myself a Texan first. Her interests come first and foremost.

Beware of what you wish...

Independence quite possibly would men all presidents of an independent [nation of] Texas would be from... Texas! The new nation would go bankrupt in less than a year under the weight of too many unnecessary and costly wars and economic mismanagement...

"In God we trust" was adopted as the official motto of the United States in 1956 as an alternative or replacement to the unofficial motto of E pluribus unum, adopted when the Great Seal of the United States was created and adopted in 1782.[1][2]

"In God we trust" has appeared on U.S. coins since 1864[3] and on paper currency since 1957.[4] Some secularists object to its use.[5]

It is also the motto of the U.S. state of Florida. Its Spanish equivalent, En Dios Confiamos, is the motto of the Republic of Nicaragua.[6]

The phrase appears to have originated in "The Star-Spangled Banner", written during the War of 1812. The fourth stanza includes the phrase, "And this be our motto: 'In God is our Trust.'"

Aspirations for the motto arose surrounding the turmoil and heightened religious sentiment that existed during the Civil War. The Reverend M. R. Watkinson, as part of a campaign initiated by eleven northern Protestant Christian denominations in a letter dated November 13, 1861, petitioned the Treasury Department to add a statement recognising "Almighty God in some form in our coins."[7] At least part of the motivation was to declare that God was on the Union side of the Civil War.[8] According to Brian Burrell, the actual wording of the motto was inspired by a Union Civil War unit's company motto.[9][10]

You realize that independent countries do this thing called export and import?

It would still be in the best interests of the Midwest to export food. The NE being closer than China would still be one of your best customers.

California - Of course we want to leave, and all the red states want us to leave as well. Good times would come to all, except Nevada and Oregon, because all the tax cheats that say they live there but are "just visiting" in California would treated like the scum they really are.

My thoughts exactly....minus the scum part.

the point being - they need the midwest, whether they want to admit it or not.

By your use of the word "need", a nation "needs" every other nation/region it imports goods from.

Maybe we should annex China too.

they have all our debt, why would we annex them?

most of our debt is held internally. less than 30% of it is held by foreign/international entities, china being the largest among them.

time to throw out the fox news talking points and exchange them for some facts!

I don't think this will ever be likely because it's been talked about for decades in Texas. This country even had a civil war and we're still a Union.

However, what about those of us living in another State other than the State we were born in that is petitioning to secede? Do we get a say even if we don't live there anymore but we were born and raised there and the outcome of something like this will affect our US Citizenship?

I like the city of Austin, my hometown's response, to the petition in Texas to secede from the United States. City of Austin files counter-petition to secede from Texas

You should know better. The City did not file that petition any more than the States filed all those other petitions.

What is with all this telling me "I should know better" lately business? Honestly. This thread is full of jokes about the content as are most P&R threads. Touchy touchy.

I haven't even seen you on VJ in ages. I don't know what you're talking about.
