The pledge was written 30 years after the civil war and was used as typical government propoganda to keep people in line.

Even our national holidays are nothing but propoganda these days. Thanksgiving was put into place during the civil war as a way to gives thanks and to distract from the issues at hand.

Hell, even Christmas wasn't a 'holiday' until after the civil war. I want to say early 1870's.

Prior to the civil war, it was understood how rocky of a relationship the states had and how at the end of the day, the states had an option to leave the union if they so desired. Even Lincoln himself agreed with these ideas, but political pressure eventually caused him to have act in a way that ultimately led to a tyranny from the north for a long period after the civil war was over.

Why give such credence to the state? What about your city, block, HOA? On whose authority do you give allegiance to one governing entity over another? How did Texas come into existence? Did some watery-tart throw a sword at Gov. Rick Perry?

They wouldn't like the other areas. Turns out the gun nuts and crazies like living away from other people, and the desert gives them all the privacy they could want. Many of them are already heading for places like Utah and Idaho.
