Hi all,

While waiting for an interview date. My wife got a new job at her former city where she used to live before she moved down to live with me after our marriage - The city is 4hrs drive from me. She interviewed with the company 7months ago and she was just called upoen few weeks ago to come and start work. That is a good news for us, and she has since resumed at the job.

However, I am a little bit confused. I don't know if I should inform USCIS about her new location or just wait for the interview date to let them know. The reason being that she spends 5-6 days at her new job and we now see twice in 2weeks (because I am so busy too with my new job as I combine that with grabuate school. Before the job, she used to complain of boredom as she is only the one home mostly while I go to work and school, so she was excited about atleast leaving the house and getting to do something) I have been reading here about USCIS carrying out random checks. I am ready for that if it happens because our marriage is legit and have nothing to fear about. My only concern is that won't they frown that I didn't report she has a new job in another city and such another address where she lives?

Also, she is only staying with one of her friends over there for now as we are not that financially buoyant to get an apartment for her. All of our mails still come to our home address which is the one on file with USCIS. We are saving as much as possible so that we can we can get a house by the time I finish school. What do you guys advise or suggest I do?

Thanks.

P.S - We agreed she go for her new job because I only come home at night. I work 9hrs a day and go for evening classes and research after.

Her address needs to be updated, even if she's only staying with friends and needs to move again (and update her address) again. I don't know your financial situation, but if she is earning extra money, it could also be good to update your I_864 to show the added income - even if you just take an updated version to your interview.

When you buy a house together, will it be in your current city or hers? If it's in your current city (and she will move back as you'll have finished graduate school) then it might be a good idea to engage with a realtor, and have a few emails with them about areas to move to and house prices. You can then email / IM with your wife about it, and provide the evidence to USCIS in your interview, as it will help support the fact that her move is temporary. She can do the same if you are planning to move to her city.

Also - make sure you email and do IM conversations a lot with her whilst she's gone, as this will also help support the argument that the move is temporary and the relatiionship is loving and genuine. If you only call/Skype, it is more difficult. In addition - keep records of the times you visit each other so you can also establish that you are close and maintaining your relationship despite the distance.

I certainly don't see this as a deal breaker, but keeping records of everything will help shore up your situation.

If she hasn't moved, I wouldn't change the address. You said she's staying with friends, so that sounds temporary to me. I think by supplying a change of address you're only adding confusion for no real reason.

As far as updating the I-864, I wouldn't do that either. Unless you need her new income to meet the requirements, of course.

When you go the interview, if they ask about her job, etc, then you will tell them where she's working and that she's staying with friends until you guys get a new place...that sounds reasonable to me.

just make certain she shows up at the interview with you, and has written letters of attestation about this stuff.

if they need to be presented, she'll know all about it.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
