My current income on my 2011 tax return is $25,000 which i have put down on my I-864. I do have a joint sponsor who makes above $100,000 but i am just wondering if my own income alone is enough for me to sponsor my wife.

I don't undederstand how to interpret their poverty guidelines thats why i am asking you all. I don't have any dependents or kids. Its just me and my wife for whom i have applied.

ALSO:

Do you currently have the same income for 2012? They will look at 2011 taxes but will also look at what you are currently earning and they will want to see you are consistantly making enough money above the guidelines.

If your current job makes $19.000 or more you are good.

In addition, your recent 3 year tax returns should also reflect that number.

Your 2011 tax return reflects your past income. When stating current income, you state what you will make for twelve months going forward, based on your "current" income today. You could have made 50,000 last year and lost your job last month. If so, your current income might be zero. Conversely, you could have made nothing last year and took a new job last month for 50,000, making your "current income" 50,000.

If it's just the two of you and you can document $25,000 in current income, you don't need a joint sponsor.

You should/could have mentioned 40K as your current income, the supporting documents being your current employment letter and a few recent paystubs. Good that you have a joint sponsor, but i feel you would have qualified on your own.

yes you are right, but just to be on a safe side, my sister decided to be my joint sponsor. She completed an I-864 and I-864A. She has no kids, just herself and her husband.

I have another question if you can answer: Does my sister's husband need to file I-864A as well or no?

My sister file taxes jointly with her husband, however, on I-864 we have not combined/used her husband income to sponsor my wife. In Question 24, Part B, she did not list her husband or his income.

She listed only her income on I 864 & I 864A and will ONLY use her income to sponsor and she has provided her recent six months paystubs and employement letter that shows how much she makes alone.

I have heard from many ppl who had joint sponsor that they went to interview and CO requested that they must submit joint sponsor spouse I864A as well. I believe those ppl were probably one who had joint sponsor and they joint sponsor combined their husband income and forgot to include theie husband I864A or that those joint sponsor listed combined income listed on their joint tax return and gave no stand alone prove of how much they alone make like W2 form or paystubs/employement letter.
