Putting an O in front of something doesn't make it clever. That one disappoints me.

I don't. I just don't think it's fair to take peoples stuff just because they have been clever enough to get more stuff than me .

Has nothing to do with taking people's stuff. It has to do with them paying their fair share like the rest of us.

The top 10% in this country pay slightly more than 70% of taxes. Top 50% pay over 97%.. So if the top 10% paid 90% of taxes would that be better. I think if they are paying 70% of taxes they are doing their part.

What you're missing is that the reduction of top tax rates has done squat for the national well-being. It hasn't grown the economic pie but rather it grew the slice of that pie that's taken by the few. Hence, the many had less left to share. I'd be all for top tax rate cuts if that was helping the country the way the proponents of that approach claim it will. Cut the tax rates and job creators will create jobs. We've done this for 12 years now and I must ask as I have many times before: WHERE ARE THE JOBS? Face it, it's not working. It just isn't. It hasn't and it won't. This country did a heck of a lot better when the top tax rate was 50%+ and has been in trouble ever since we started this game of bringing down the top marginal rates. And it's evident not only here but across the developed world. It's high time that productivity gains are shared across the board again rather than being entirely sucked up on the top. Once that happens, economic and job growth will resume.

So you think 10% paying 70% of the bill is fair and they need to pay more?

Look at what they draw and what they have amassed. I'd much rather the burden would rest on broader shoulders but that would require a broader distribution of the economic pie. Like it used to be. But that broader distribution ended when the top tax rates started coming down. The bottom has nothing to give up. And trust me, they'd rather be in a position to pay income taxes. Let them benefit from increased productivity again, raise their incomes and they would be delighted to pay income taxes.

I remember managing low wage staff when I first came to the US. That was 16 years ago. We paid unqualified staff something like $7.50 per hour. That same staff makes $7.50 - $8.00 an hour today. Back then, gas was $0.95 a gallon, milk was $2.00 a gallon, a loaf of bread would run a buck. Today, gas is $3.50, milk is $3.50 and that loaf of bread comes at $2.50. And that s why ever more people do not pay federal income taxes. They can't get by on a day's worth of work w/o paying taxes. Executive salaries and investment income is doing well, though. And that is where the taxes will have to come from until productivity gains trickle down to the entry level staff again.

Google economy Reagan tax cuts. Get back with me.

How was the economic pie shared before Reagan cut top tax rates and how has it been shared since? Besides, top marginal tax rates were 70% then. Different starting point, different debate.
