Medical Exam (Have to go back for Immunization)

Hi everyone, just an update. I went to my 2-day medical exam today and yesterday. All done except for my immunization because I haven't had my period this month and there's sexual contact recently (more than 72 hrs ago). So, even if my PT was negative, they still didn't want to risk it so they asked me to go back 14 days after the contact or when I'm on my period to get my vaccines. I was disappointed but still happy because it's not the Sputum test that was stamped on my receipt. Anyways, I am just planning to just get my immunizations after my interview so it'll just be in one trip. I'm from Cebu so it's kind of difficult (costly) to travel back and forth. The person behind the releasing counter said the embassy won't require me to get the vaccines before the interview but it's necessary for the POE so she said it's fine even if I get it after the interview. The only thing is that I need to retake the PT and pay 450 for it. But thank God, I'm done with my medical. Good luck guys!

Quick question, if the beneficiary is over 40 and won't be required to get a pregnancy test, does it matter what part of the menstrual cycle they are on when they do the medical? Thanks for any advice :)

Hi! I am not sure of the right answer to this, I hope someone sees and give an accurate reply. :)

If she's having her period, she won't be allowed to complete her medical and she won't be allowed to complete her vaccinations. She will have to return after her period has finished.

Thanks Tahoma, I thought it had something to do with being able to verify pregnancy to administer the vaccinations, but upon further reading it seems there's a portion of the physical exam in general that cannot be done during menstruation. My wife is very irregular so we're crossing our fingers. I'm just glad that we live so near to SLEC.

Also, if there has been any sexual contact since her previous period, St. Lukes will not allow her to be vaccinated. In that case, she will have to return for her vaccinations after her next period.

Very good to know. The timing of the medical is a little more complicated than I had anticipated. From what I understand, on day 2 if everything is ok they give you the cd and immunization chart, then they send your passport and some other stuff directly to the embassy. How close to the interview date can we have the medical done? Does it take awhile for them to send your passport to the embassy? Our interview is Dec 17th, but we won't be able to travel to the US for several months after that so I want to maximize our 6 month timeframe by doing the medical as close to the interview as is reasonable.

You have the right idea about completing the medical right before the interview since you want the visa to be valid for as long as possible. The visa will be valid for six months from the date of the medical, not six months from the date of the interview.

On day two, St. Lukes gives you the x-ray CD, the DS-3025 vaccination record, and your passport. They send your medical report to the Embassy within a day or two.

Technically, you can complete your medical up to the day before your interview. If you do so, you may want to request from St. Lukes to carry your medical report to your interview (if they have completed it). Usually, completing your medical a few days before the interview is a safe bet.

The doctor who did my immunization interview told me that the vaccines or one of them (I am not sure) is harmful for the baby so they want to make sure there's no pregnancy. That's why they want to wait 14 days after the sexual contact to have a repeat PT to make sure there's really nothing there. Just take note of the first day of her last pregnancy and the dates when there was contact after the period up to the medical exam.

Also, I'm not sure why it's not ok to go when you're on your period when they wanted me to be on my period on the second day so that they'd administer the immunization. The Physical test didn't include thorough examination down there, they just asked me to lay on my side and she looked for 3 seconds. I'm guessing it's just the pee test really.

We plan to do the medical on a day when my wife could potentially have had and been done with her period, but if we abstain for now we will have 21 days without contact at that point so hopefully that will convince the dra that a PT would tell the story (along with the fact that she's 43). She'll probably have to have the sputum anyway so it likely won't matter much in the long run. She has a scar from pneumonia that shows up and even though she gets x-rays every year at work and can bring the latest with her, I would highly doubt that just an x-ray comparison and lack of change in scar appearance from year to year would convince them to spare us from the dreaded sputum. I think you're right about the urinalysis being the reason for the menstruation timing for the physical exam.
