So I was wondering has anyone here ever used a company to do their cr-1 visa for them? I am feeling extremely overwhelmed with the whole process...I probably won't end up paying someone though.. What are your guys opinions on this?

This is a DIY site, so most people here will do the paperwork themselves, more so than "the average". Unless you have big red flags, doing it yourself is a good idea as it's cheaper and faster. I can see the value of a "preparing company" though for those who are very busy or just not used/ not confident in reading long instructions and following them exactly.

Look at it this way u still are preparing everything.

U have to provide the evidence unless u plan on giving someone access to ur Email, IM, Skpye, whatever. And u would than have THEM decide which evidence, letter, card, communication, a word, a fight, paints the best picture of a bonafide relationship.

Will the preparer know ur Embassy and know how to present the best stuff upfront.

And the forms. You still have to give all he information to fill in all the blanks.

I have to say being on VJ i have seen more errors when people used outsiders and that's including lawyers than when they did it themselves.

Yes its time to get down and dirty work. But read the guides, ask questions you can do it. And it truly becomes a true labor of love. Or that could just be me. I truly miss it.:D

Whether it's a good idea to do ANYTHING yourself depends on the "self". It's an individual thing. Lot's of folks have no business trying to manage this process on their own. Most of them know who they are. Some are simply too busy with other things and would rather pay somebody to do it for them, than take the time and effort to do it themselves. Other's simply don't have the skill set needed and wouldn't be able to develop it quickly. This process is a nightmare for somebody who isn't good with details and following instructions. I'm good with both, but I call somebody else to fix my appliances and although I've rebuilt engines, I have no desire to even change the oil for myself anymore.

That it's good for you does NOT mean it's good for everybody.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

Hi, this is a totally personal decision for you to make. Most people on VJ have filed their own petitions & followed through the entire process with the support of the VJ community.

My husband & I filed the CR1 for ourselves but after approval an attorney is doing the rest for us. However, we're still completely aware of what is required & we're in touch with the entire process. For personal reasons we just decided it was worth it to get an experienced attorney to handle the rest of the process (especially the NVC stage/ contacting our joint sponsor e.t.c). Meanwhile we're compiling all our evidence in preparation for the interview part.

All the best in your visa journey!!!

Even though yes its seems overwhelming it's really you who is doing the work whether you hire someone. Unless you really are going to give someone carte blanche to go through all your emails, IM,s and every other thigs and they decide what to submit.

Even people hiring a lawyer the lawyer tells them get this and that and send to me. Thye don't sit there line by line reading all your gushigs.

And frankly don't you really want to be in control and know everys step of the way whats going on. It's daunting but oh so much funa dn worth it. I know I am an odd egg I actually have petition withdrawal and need a fix. So I have prepared some more evidence to send with my package for NVC. It's endless Good Luck to you whatever you decide.

I say save the money for the process you will need it, do some reading, get the hang of it and you will do just fine... Most of us here if not all of us have done so, and have made it thus far to the point of getting there visa approved. I wouldn't recommend a lawyer as they are human as well and will also make mistakes. in my opinion it's a waste of money, and sometime they lie about the progress of the case and when they actually send the document. On the other hand if you are a person who doesn't have the time but has the money go right ahead and let some else do the job for you. But other then that it's up to the person and there knowledge.

Good Luck on what ever you decide to do.
