hi everyone! this site has helped me a lot in going thru all the processes. From K1 petition to AOS. And it has been very helpful! But then, im kind of confused right now, as to less cases have been reported that is similar to my situation regarding my SSN. so here it went:

all processes are expedited and in a hurry since my husband got deployed right away:

i am now on current pending AOS and my interview will be on the 13th of dec 2012.

july 2012: applied for k1 visa. received no1 and all.

sept 3 2012: interview approved

sept 8: arrival at US

sept 11, 2012 : marriage

sept 20, 2012 : applied for SSN under married name (showed my passport, marriage cert)

so the thing is, ive been waiting for my SSN be issued. it has been more than a 7 weeks and i still havent received my SSN in the mail. Others who came in on a fiance visa didnt have any problems getting an SSN. the lettter they gave me last sept 20 said that i have to wait upto 4 weeks as to they will verify first the docs i showed to show my alien status with the federal, state or local office in the US that issued the docs.

When will i expect the SSN be issued? when i received my green card? or do i just to do followup once again?

Is it because i applied using my NEW surname thats giving me all the hassle rght now? cos i checked last oct 23, and my name isnt is in stil in the sytem.i applied more than 2 weeks after i arrived, so my name has to be there already. Please give me some light in this dilemma. Has anyone experienced this before? i badly need the SSN before the year ends cos i need to use it to register in a licensure exam.

thanks a bunch!

Did you also give your maiden name as other names used, when you applied? I would come back to a SS office and ask what's going on, very quickly because your I-94 is going to expire soon!

I got mine one week only under my unmarried name and no hassle at all. She said i will wait two weeks to have my ss number but i was surprise when it arrived earlier than i expect. You should call or email them about this.

Never regret. If it’s good, it’s wonderful. If it’s bad, it’s experience.

I was also told that they needed to check my status in the US before issuing me a #. I wasn't in the system. They told me 4 weeks and I was happy to receive it in less than two weeks. I would go back to the administration office and check to see what's going on. It's quite possible it just got lost in the mail!

I kept my maiden name and plan to go back to SSA when my EAD shows up that reflects my married name.

Took my wife 6 weeks from application at Social Security office to receiving her SSN card in the mail.

In our case, the slovenly government contractor working for the Customs and "Burro" Patrol took forever to input the immigration information into the I-94 database.

Check out the SSN subforum for more information: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/156-social-security-numbers/

YMMV.

Good luck on your immigration journey.
