Medical to Interview time frame?

I was thinking of doing either two things once I get to the interview stage. Since my interview has to be in Montreal, I thought I could just book a medical there and stay in Montreal for a week. Would that be enough time? Its either that or book my medical in Surrey, travel to see my mom in Kelowna, BC and both of us go to Surrey. Would I have to stay the night there to pick up the documents the next day? I'm not sure which would be the better option. Also do you have to pay for the medical in cash or do they take debit and credit cards?

I'm a planner so I'm trying to make sure I get everything done before it's needed. The hard part is convincing my husband of the same! LOL

I always like the option when you have a bit of leeway on the time--just in case the medical does not go as planned. That way you have time to deal with the problem

A week in Montreal should be enough time if you went with that option. However, if they discover any medical problems they can refuse to release your results until you are checked out by your regular doctor. This would obviously delay things and you would not have the results to bring to your interview. So if there is anything you are thinking might come up, you may not want to do that.

Generally the medical results are available 2 days later.

For payment, it depends on what doctor you end up using. When I used Dr. Seiden in Toronto, they were only taking cash. Not sure if it has changed since then.

As far as the medical in Surrey goes, I got mine done at a 7am appointment on Friday but couldn't pick up results until after 4pm on Monday - so be aware it might longer if you do it before the weekend. The office will take cash or debit but not credit.

I'm worried about the cost effectiveness of either option plus taking all that time off work. I hope this all goes through by July next year, which means I won't have earned enough vacation hours to be taking 2 weeks off.

I just had my medical and my interview done in Montreal and stayed there from Sunday Nov 4 to Friday Nov 9. My medical was scheduled for first thing monday morning on the 5th and I picked my results up at 7am Nov 8th and brought them to my interview at 7:30am. They do chest x-rays for TB and check blood work for syphilis. If you wanted to be sure of having a clear medical just get checked by your family doctor before you go and get a blood test done for syphillis and HIV. I booked my flight to come back on the night of the 9th just in case there was any issues so that I had a full day to deal with it before I left. They take debit and credit at the clinic and with taxes it costs around 230-240$. If your medical is not ready for pick up before your interview the clinic will give you a letter and your receipt stating that it was done but that you would bring it to the consulate the next day. They say 3 full business days but it actually usually only takes 2. They had me call back to the clinic after 48 hours to remind them to have it ready for the next morning and there was no issues.

Awesome thanks for all that information. I probably will get the blood tests for those done when I get some immunity tests done. Might as well check all the blood at the same time I think a full seven days should cover it plus I'll have already gone for my yearly physical from my doctor as well by July. Thanks again!!! Saves me money on flights and time spent driving.

If you do choose to do it in Surrey, you will do your medical exam at one location, then your chest x-ray and bloodwork up the street. You can pick up your full medical package the next business day after 4pm.

I wouldn't risk it. I had my medical done in Toronto and everyone told me I was going really early doing it two months before my interview. But I am so glad I did. You see, I had a fuzzy spot on my chest x-ray and wanted me to come back. I had to go back not once, but twice before I was medically cleared. The first time I had to go back a week later, but the next time they told me I had to wait 2 weeks. I realize this is not the norm, but things like this DO happen and you may not get approved until you have a clear medical. By the way, the thing that was wrong with me was that I had a chest infection I didn't even know about. I know another girl who had to get a sputuum test and wait another 6 weeks on top of that!

That's what I am doing. I didn't want to book my Medical in Surrey because they only allow you to book 2 weeks before appointment and I need to have more time in advance. I booked my appointment in Montreal at the Medisys Health group for the 7th of December. They said to allow 3 business days for the results to be complete. Our interviews on the 13th, we figured my husband and I would turn it into a nice family vacation with my daughter... Another thing the medical office in Surrey is kind of strange because you have to book your appointment through email and can't really speak with a real person. The office in Montreal, they're real friendly answer all your questions, I found it much better.
