We are now ready to send in the AOS paperwork (k1) and I see we should send it to Chicago Lockbox address. There are two addresses listed a PO box and a regular type address.

Should we send it to the PO box, and if so, whats the best method to use?

Thank you

There's no best method, it just depends on which mailing service do you want to mail your package with (USPS, UPS, FedEx...).

I was happy with USPS Express mail (sent to the P.O. Box address). I think I paid about $15-20, with delivery with confirmation (delivered the next day).

USPS Priority mail is cheaper and will take a day or 2 longer.

You choose what you want. :)

Yes, there will be someone. If you use USPS and track your package online, you may see that nobody was there to sign the package, but it's not a problem. It is usually delivered a few hours later, or the next day.

hi there!

Just looking at your timeline, I see you came over as a K1, so I'm guessing your I-94 expired a while ago. Have you experienced any issues becuase of that?

I have only just been alerted to the fact it even had an expiry date (which was last week!!) So now I am pushing to get my AOS application in asap.

Thank you for your time!

Suzy

Thank you but is it to the PO box and if so is okay to send it certified, will someone be at a PO box to sign for the package.

Many thanks

When they collect the mail they will need to sign for it to collect it.

I personally sent it USPS delivery confirmation to the street address. I didn't bother with signature because no-one checks the ID anyway when asking someone to sign so it'll just be someone randoms signature, or some made up name. Someone I know had their signed "L. Box" which we assumed was lock box. Total waste of money. Delivery confirmation is all you need.

I filed 4 months after my I-94 expiry. It does not affect your eligibility to AOS, but depending on the length of overstay it would be risky to use AP.

I wouldn't say that we have had any issues. The problem is that you basically can't do anything. You can't drive. You can't work. My poor husband just sits at home and waits for the weekend to spend time with us. This has been difficult as easy as it sounds. He gets to missing home a lot because his mind is not busy. The problem is that my husband had to have a root canal which cost us. I had to then start saving again to get enough to apply for his AOS. Otherwise we would have done it alot sooner. That being said, you should do it as soon as you are able if you want to work and travel.

My experience is similar to didopage.

I sent ours USPS Priority mail at a cost of $ 17.10 (2 lbs., 4.7oz), certified with delivery confirmation. I mailed it on 17 Aug 2012, it was signed for by "USCIS CHICAGO LOCKBOX" On 20 Aug 2012. I was satisfied with the 3-day confirmed delivery service from Seattle.

YMMV.

Good luck on your immigration journey.
