Jindal: "We cannot be the party that simply protects the rich so they get to keep their toys."

“We’ve got to make sure that we are not the party of big business, big banks, big Wall Street bailouts, big corporate loopholes, big anything,” Jindal told POLITICO in a 45-minute telephone interview. “We cannot be, we must not be, the party that simply protects the rich so they get to keep their toys.”

He was just as blunt on how the GOP should speak to voters, criticizing his party for offending and speaking down to much of the electorate.

“It is no secret we had a number of Republicans damage our brand this year with offensive, bizarre comments — enough of that,” Jindal said. “It’s not going to be the last time anyone says something stupid within our party, but it can’t be tolerated within our party. We’ve also had enough of this dumbed-down conservatism. We need to stop being simplistic, we need to trust the intelligence of the American people and we need to stop insulting the intelligence of the voters.”

Jindal must have read VJ P&R. This is exactly what we've been trying to get into the skulls of Danno, BD and other RWNJs. Bobby gets it but judging from our resident RWNJs, the Republican base doesn't get it.

So he's saying the Republican attitude needs to change?

That's what he's saying. It'll be an uphill battle to get that message across the Republican base.

Why does he need to switch parties? Does he make too much sense to continue in the Republican party?

he's still a conservative. but he's striking a tone that is respectful of people who didn't vote for the republican ticket this year and the base doesn't care for that.

that's the issue, charles illustrates it well. the republican base doesn't want to see republican politicians treat us with anything less than utter contempt.

and that's why they lost.

I only remember one time in history when a large number of members in one party, switched membership to another party: 1993 when about 40 conservative leaning Democrats joined the Republicans in electing Newt Gingrich. Of course they were already voting with the Republicans on most legislation when the Democrats held the house, especially after 1972 when the commies took control of their former party.
