Yup. You dedicated a whole (now locked down) thread to your soviet socialist self.

An ignorant person from a similar culture who speaks one language useful in both places may think so.

On the other hand a person marrying a woman that speaks little English and has a 13 year old son may have different reasons for wanting to know about the success of people from their country in the USA. That would probably explain why Alla has met many fiancee's in Russia and Ukraine, had coffee with them and even went to an interview with one VJ member's fiancee and has never had a Canadian ask her the same thing.

Perhaps it is why RUB fiancees and spouses have called Alla, and still do, seems they talk about how Alla and her sons adjusted, how they have done. That seems to be very important to women from another culture. They want to know how THEY can go to college like Alla did. Can they really get a degree in the USA? Can I really start my own business and do well? Own a car, learn to drive, get a credit rating, own a home? Will my children be OK? I am marrying the man I love but I want my children to benefit also (current or future children)

Seems like there are always questions about how their children will do in school. Can you imagine parents having such concerns? Are you a parent of a school child? Did you move them to a country where they do not speak the language?

Perhaps it explains why I am proud when I run into one of her students that has learned to speak ENGLISH and is adjusting to life here because Alla taught them to. Perhaps it is why I am prud one of our sons is an asst professor at Rice University at age 21 and the other just brought home his 12th consecutive quarterly report card of straight A+'s including creative writing (English) He did not SPEAK English 5 years ago. He has run the table of math classes in 2.5 years and has been attending Physics and Statistics classes at UVM (university of Vermont) for 2 semesters. Yeah, and I worked with hom for months every night for about 3 hours on his English and helping him to understand his homework. It was worth it.

But why don't you just criticize people more? Think that it is only to make someone feel bad. Do you feel bad because someone else struggles and does well?

Meh...NM

Do you have any accomplishments whatsoever of your own, or are you fully content living your life vicariously through your wife?

No one is criticizing your wife or her accomplishments. I think they're all great and kudos to her, really. As a Canadian woman I have asked other Canadian women who have married Americans what their experiences are too. Even though we may speak the same language, moving to America is still a culture shock. We're all equal here - people are responding negatively to your arrogance; again, no one is slamming your wife.

One is not permitted to disagree with The Gary. Sheesh, y'all should know this by now. I mean, I learned it when I said I didn't like some shoe accessories last week that he thought were rockin'.

Nice. What an ignorant response.

You seem to be intelligent, well spoken, and you post enough here. And yet I don't know a thing about you. I only know about Alla. You take the time to tell people everything about her. Her schedule, her attitude, her clothing choices, her capabilities, what household chores she's willing and unwilling to do, how she responds to questions, etc. The list goes on and on and on and so sometimes people get fed up. I'm not sure why you don't understand that.

I am modest and do not like to talk about myself. PM me with specific questions.

Slightly less ignorant than Teddy's response (big surprise)

My accomplishments (I WAS sent to Ukraine to modernize a port handling material for 300 million people which is which ultimately led to me meeting my wife)are small compared to those of Alla who came here from another country and those are small compared to Pasha who did not speak English when he arrived (very little) How about you? What language and culture barriers did you overcome? Had you ever had a bank account before? Drive a car? Did you have a credit card?

Few people moving here would be intersted in what an educated native speaker can achieve anyway. I haven;t seen those types of questions in the RUB forum. I see alot of questions about how an immigrant from Ukraine can expect to do.

And FWIW Alla actually likes Canada. We go to Montreal often, it is an hour's drive.

Listen, Gary. You and I both know that I have never ONCE criticized Alla. I don't even know the woman! Have I asked questions about her? No. You know why? You don't give anyone the opportunity to. I feel like I know a ridiculous amount about HER life and I've never asked a single question. You overshare information to people who aren't asking for it. There is nothing wrong about being in love with your wife and being proud of her and her accomplishments. Every husband should be. However, you go overboard and usually in inappropriate threads.

The more you feel the need to talk her up to a bunch of strangers on the internet, the more irritating it is. What are you trying to prove and why? You seem to have an Alla story for every single question that gets asked and it rubs people the wrong way and there's nothing wrong with their reaction. People have attempted to explain it to you in the past, but you're defensive and dismissive.

Your praise of your wife comes off as bragging to others because it's absolutely constant. It comes off as arrogant and superior when you know little to nothing about anyone else who posts here because nobody overshares to the extent that you do. Not everybody feels the need to tell everyone they talk to about the details of their lives. You do, that's great. But you act like you have something to prove and if people don't behave the way YOU do, that they don't share any accomplishments or bragging rights the way you do. It's silly.

You're just lucky jealousy isn't against TOS.

I already knew that. How? You mention it all the time. She models there, no?

I don't know why you feel the need to compare her accomplishements to anyone else's.

How else will CABA ladies know how lowly and sad they are unless someone holds up a superior image for them to compare themselves to?

Gary's doing a public service. Self awareness is the first step to recovery.

And you think I am comparing them. Yes, the current Avatar is from an ad for a Montreal nightclub, actually they did not use THAT photo, it was one of hundreds from that shoot though.

If you are not comparing them, then why ask what I overcame in comparison to the various barriers her son overcame? What's the point if not to make him (and you, by association) look superior?

Because our wives are hot, smart and wear heels to wash dishes. And you need to slide the humor bar to the right about 3 clicks.

But I especially thank you for acknowledging the verbal abuse we receive.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."
