I overstayed a tourist visa in 2000 by about a month and a half. I was young and stupid and thought i could stay 6 months instead if 3.I have since been back in the US 4 times with no problems. Should I mention this when applying for my j1 visa? They are asking me for details of my last 5 trips and I'm freaking out! In 2000, I don't think they didn't have the same security and I never handed in the green form in the way out as I lost it. It wasn't a problem at the time. Help!

The penalty for lying is much worse than the penalty for the crime itself.

Sounds like you didn't stay long enough to have a ban, so it shouldn't be a big deal. Always tell the truth with immigration, (and in life).

is easier to get into canada, yes? I'd pursue that for now instead of a J1 visa into the USA.

I will be devastated if I don't get it.

Is there a possibility that they don't have a record of me leaving the country? Should I take it that they let me in the last 4 times and I should be ok?

They ask for my last 5 trips. Should I book another and go for a weekend so I can mention that instead??

I'm freaking out :(

Sounds like the issue is that she used the VWP when not entitled to do so.

The tourist visa (formally "visitor's visa") was always valid for 6 months. Even before you were born.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans.
