well why didnt your wife family attend? it does appear strange that none of them would go. And the CO saying the letter is fake and that it is written by a nigerian is not good news at all. whats the deal with that? how she came to that conclusion? did you ask?

Sorry for your AP. I would say since they asked why didn't your wife's family attend they are questioning the bonds. Thats not a usual question for Lagos. So what you need to do is go over your evidence what is in your evidence that may indicate not a strong family ties.

And basically saying your letters are fake is not good. I know I am no CO but Nigerians write in a specific way and always give themselves away when writing usually. She needs some serious letters from the family members all notarized and with a strong good reason for not attending but showing they support the relationship.

I would gather that one of these family members is a co-sponsor? If you have a co-sponsor you most definitely need a letter from them.

And AP last as long as it takes for you to get information to them. Hopefully they won't require another interview and will just accept the documents listed and approve Visa.

I swear the CO's in Lagos are out of control! so now they are lingustical experts?!? where does it stop! Honestly does anyone know if there is a way to file a formal complaint cause how the hell did the CO now become an expert in the area of language? and no its not strange that her family members didn't go to Nigeria, its expensive to fly to Nigeria! and not everyone's family supports relationships. Also would require the family member to take time off from work.

Not strange at all that wife's family didn't attend. Not everyone has the money for that expensive trip. Not everyone has passports. I know my fam couldn't afford it and I wouldn't be able to pay it for them. Some have a ceremony over there for his fam and another in the states for the others fam. I agree Lagos is out of control. But maybe there were other reasons too. But so what if her family didn't attend. Is that now a requirement too??? You should have told them it was too expensive.

TJandJR sorry for the minor delay but your visa is going to be approved soon I pray in Jesus name, amen! I wish you included those letters from your sister and first son in the original petition for uscis to see and if they never querry the authenticity of the wording then the CO would not have questioned what was already approved in the petition... I don't see anything wrong if your wife's family members signed a notarized statement written of facts prepared by you with their consents... There's no faking in that whatsoever since they can read what they're signing... Well, the CO never tagged the letters any name and that in my humble opinion was never a big deal whatsoever... Thank God your interview was over now and if there's anything they asked you to summit during the AP pls do and relax... You both can try something more relaxing to engage with rather than thinking about the AP which will be over at unknown period of time... Less work for you both now but more faith, prayer in your quite time for special favor... It'll will be over soon when you lest expect it... But if there's anything you would like to share with the forum about the interview as they occur to you, come up with them as we all tackle them together... But as we can see the CO did not have enough reason to accuse your marriage of being non bona fide and it is never strange that non of your wife family oversea was not at the wedding in a foreign land... Now to those of you who this strange, have you consider the cost of travelling oversea-time, work, passport, $? So to every reasonable person this factors are good enough reason to go with the support and prayer of the family... You can take statistics of people whose family did not accompany to a foreign land for wedding, and it never became an issue... So, maybe there might be something else... But just as it is success is here with you already dear... Waiting patiently for the good news to come now... God bless you

For real ! Can you actually see the whole family "leaving on a jet plane" for Nigeria ? This is not a destination wedding to the Bahamas for Pete's sake.

The whole attitude with USC family attendance and approval and bond is so 1950 Beaver Cleaver. When will they step into the current times with their memos ?

Many families do not approve of internet relationships much less cross cultural International relationships and have no intent to go to Nigeria in support of the petitioner. Matter of fact half of the family probably tried to talk her out of it. Does that make the couple not bona fide ?

Grown people making their own decisions is what it is and Mama and Paps and Granny's attendance should not matter as it is not a freaking requirement but just another monkey wrench thrown into a broken system.

Unless the family is wealthy and all have cushy jobs to get enough time off and Granny is healthy as an ox, who will go to to another continent except for the occasional sister or two, the bosom buddy friend or an adult child ! Heck, I would not even want them there under all the circumstances. Lord have mercy !

This is a complex visa journey not a 2 year well planned out normal USA wedding. Get perspective Lagos !

There is no time table for how long AP lasts and each case is unique. It could be that you are in the proverbial "holding tank" until

you submit more proof ( they would usually ask if they wanted more )or they are verifying items you have submitted internally or with

other agencies there or in the US. My fiance was on AP for 16 months and then the visa was refused and the case send back.

You may be in AP for a few weeks to a few months, no one knows and no one can do anything about it.

You did not answer as to if your wife was coached to write certain things and not having seen the letter I don't have an opinion on that.

Is it possible that your wife may have older and dated letters with a style of writing that may suggest a similar style of expressing herself

as in the notarized letter ? A letter she may have written to a friend or you, explaining why family could not attend ? Was the letter handwritten

or printed ? Two side by side letters may prove it was her unique style and no one else's.

Other than several sworn affidavits of family and friends stating they know of your relationship and weren't able to attend the wedding due to blah blah that is about all you can do. Do you have skype and yahoo cam shots and logs or email exchanges between you and her family that you can submit ?

Best wishes.

I know this sounds crazy but alot is said in our communications to each other they may or may not be misunderstood. As I asked the OP really go through your evidence you presented and see was there mention of family coming or something.

Reason why I ask is someone I know was denied at Lagos and one of the listed items of denial was the that they talked alot about being Christians and religious and the CO stated the couple seem to be so highly religious why didn't they have a formal wedding in a church instead at the registry? This was published much on their Facebook about their religious beliefs.

I agree with what you said here but it isnt even about if the family approve or not always. In my case none of my family came because I could not afford to pay for them for 1 and bringing them to Nigeria was not my idea of a vacation hot spot. My daughter and I are very close and if I would of let her she would have gone but instead we went shopping for my dress I was going to wear and she helped pick out my jewlery and shoes. We talked about the way I should wear my hair and tried a couple of different ways and we have decided that when my husband gets here we will do another wedding. My husbands knows all of these things so if he is asked that question he can tell them why. I think OP if you would of had the reason why then that would of helped you. I think that you should get letters from the same people again but I would bet that they will be contacting them to verify that they wrote those letters in the first place.

I also went to Nigeria alone and the following year, went back and got married alone. No one in my family went to Nigeria at anytime with me...not even for the interview!

With that being said, I did address the lack of family being present due to cost. I also stated we planned to marry again in the states and so did my mother, sister and cousin in Affidavits in which they wrote TO: USCIS, NVC and Consulate Officer, that in May 2010 when I met my husband, they thought I was just having a readjustment, just got divorce "written fling" with a Nigerian Man online. That the following year when I went to visit him, they seriously thought of having me committed and forbade me to leave the country!

When I returned home in one piece and healthy as a horse with photo's of me and the love of my life, they could finally see that he was "for real", very trust worthy, hard working, family oriented and very loving. They began speaking with him when he called. The following year, they were helping me plan a wedding, helping me pack for the journey, sending gifts to the family and escorting me to the airport with their blessing....

But the CO would have never known any of this, if they hadn't written it down.

My mothers last words in the letter to the CO. Divine will be very welcome to our family and my daughter has the right to live her life as she sees fit. She is strong and the bravest woman I know. I fully support my daughter decision.
