ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESSING NAPLES, ITALY

Timeline

I started the visa process for my husband's visa in June of 2011 and he had his interview in Naples in May of 2012. On the day of my husband's interview he was told to return to the consulate the next day with a copy of my father's passport and he would receive the visa. So he did as they asked and waited for 2 hours and was given his medical records and told to go home and wait until he was called for the visa.

Since then his case has been in administrative processing. My family has had no problems every bringing relatives to the U.S. Soon we will have waited 6 months for the administrative processing to be complete. I have contacted my U.S. representative and U.S. senator and they are unable to help me except to check on the status of the case.

Is there anything I can do? The consulate has emailed me with several questions since the interview, but they have never given me a reason for the Administrative processing and none of the questions they ask seem to be related to one another. I have been asked where we plan to live and to give my husband's identifications numbers (which they already have) from the 2 countries he has lived in previously.

This is truly putting a strain on my marriage and I would appreciate any information or advice that anyone can provide. Thank you.

Your family? Does your family petition for people often? Maybr that's why.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do but wait.

My family is from abroad and 3 of my uncles have been married there and brought their wives here and had not problems.

There is nothing you can do to shorten AP. Sounds like they are verifying submitted docs and information and comparing data and background checks in your case. You can call DOS periodically to inquire about your status. They will usually not tell you the reason for the additional AP.

Depending on which countries he has been to also comes into play of AP being more extensive.

This too shall pass !

What sort of questions they ask in emails. If u can share a bit more

thanks

They have asked me where we plan to live (and they wanted an exact address), where I am attending my graduate program, to provide his identification numbers from previous county's of residence (which already they had along with his police reports). But I will also say that they only ask me for this information when I make an inquiry. Every time I contact the consulate, instead of answering my questions they simply reply with their own questions.

It is very frustrating and it is very hard for me and my husband, every time I see an email from the consulate I get so excited and then after I open it I am so depressed. Everyone has told me at least I know they are looking at the case when they ask questions, but I think they are only looking at the case as I ask about it.

And thank all of you who have previously replied for your information.

It is extremely uncommon for EU citizens to be put in AP. Is he Italian by birth? Parents' birth? Has he had any past immigration or criminal issues? Has he had frequent "uncommon" travel movements?

My husband has never had any immigration issues and yes my father was the joint sponsor, but when I filed the papers for financial support nearly a year ago I was asked to send a copy of my father's passport as well as my own, so they already had it.

And not my husband is not an Italian Citizen but rather a legal resident of the country. He has no criminal record anywhere and we have been very compliant and prompt with any requests made thus far.

Any advice or information to get some answers or expedite this process are greatly appreciated.

If he is from a Middle Eastern country or Africa then AP happens quiet often, even if he is currently in Italy with a residence permit.

I have another question pertaining to the medical exam. My husbands administrative processing is nearing 6 months from the interview date. How long is his medical exam valid? Is it 6 months or 1 year? How do we know when it is expired? Will he be contacted or is it his job to do it on his own?

Any help would be wonderful...Thank you.

The medical is good for 1 year. If your medical will expire by the time AP is completed you will be likely contacted or told by your embassy to get another medical and also police reports.
