Philippine National Bank has online banking too. You just have to enroll it in their internet banking service. That's where I used to check my salary when I was in the Philippines. I just don't know if they have it in passbook savings account. Mine was just ATM. You can always inquire bout it if you're interested.

Go for BDO, PNB, Metrobank or BPI. They're very credible in terms of remittance and online banking. If you're from Catbalogan here's the BDO address.

Samar - Catbalogan

Del Rosario St. cor. Allen Ave., 6700 Catbalogan, Samar

(055)251-5477251-5541356-1706(02)702-6000loc. 52246

Fax: (055)543-9110

8:30 - 5:30 PM Mon - Fri

I had a checking and savings account before with China Bank, it's really hard to deal with them esp if you're into online banking. If there's a problem with your bank account, you have to go to you're branch of account. With the banks I mentioned, they have remittance center in the US.

We'll probably go with PNB since deposits need to be made in Catarman unless someone can tell me of a bank in Laoang, N. Samar.

Thanks,

First, if someone is making deposits into your account, that should quality as 'activity' and no reason they would close the account.

We have BDO, Union Bank, and HSBC accounts in the Philippines, and I have had no problems with any of them as far as logging on and checking balances, etc. Don't know much about China Bank.

But I'd think your account will be fine. Worse case they start deducting a small monthly fee if long enough goes without activity.

But a deposit once in a while should certainly keep that open.

Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice and first I will tell you our situation.

In June of 2011, while we were vacationing in The Philippines, my wife opened a savings account at China Bank. The main reason she did this was so that a relative could make deposits for a loan that she gave them. We were supposed to be able to check the balance online in the states.

Our first problem was trying to check the balance while on a Virgin Mobile broadband internet connection. We couldn't get through and were blocked. The next time we tried from my internet service at work and we were able to get through to the server but she forgot the password! We tried 3 different passwords and then the account was "locked" from internet access. We've talked to people at the bank several times and they tell us to get a new password we need to show up in person. Well, that won't happen until late 2013 and I'm hoping the account will still be open by that time.

In the meantime the relative continues to make deposits so I assume the account is still open.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can check her balance? With all the fraud these days I don't blame the bank for requiring an in person appearance with picture ID.

Is there a better bank to open an account with next time?

Thanks for any suggestions.

How about checking it from their call center? Like in UNIONBANK i was able to make a call to check my account..

Reliable banks:

- BDO

- BPI

- Metro Bank

- PS Bank

- UnionBank
