hey fellow VJer's, I am planning on adopting my fiances son when he arrives in the states. Her ex is willing to sign off and give up total rights to his son. Anyone familiar with this process and what type of documents I need him to sign so the process will be smoother here in the states? I really want to get him to sign everything needed prior to her arrival. I think it will be more difficult after she arrives. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

The easiest way to adopt a child is a stepparent adoption. You can have a stepparent adoption only after you marry mom.

Adopting while the child is a foreign national living outside when you are not married to mom will be incredibly difficult.

Get Mary first in the US, then file to adopt him as a stepparent. Your local state court would handle the adoption.
