Although I haven't located the article it was attached to, my guess is the red county rash it shows was reflective of the depth of the economic crisis of the time, and not really reflective of today. Regardless, it didn't reflect the results of the 2012 Presidential election. The 2010 Elections got into the heads of the RWN's, and may be the final hurrah unless the Republicans can figure out America is changing, and appealing to Evangelicals, and Tea Party radicals, and those on the far Right, in short, old, white and wealthy, is not going to generate voter appeal for the majority of Americans.

Anyways I don't blame you for living in an information bubble. Both the left and right are guilty of it and have become more radical because of it. To have a better balance it's best to get your news from more than one source and then debate with the opposite minds. If you take away the religious right in the Republican party the two parties are similar in a lot of ways. The Republican party of today isn't what it used to be in Reagan era in regards to the values that it represented. That's what the Tea Party started to bring to light. Now they're being swept out but the Republicans are still facing a challenge ahead in future elections with becoming more inclusive and diverse. They've got to figure that one out or whither on the vine as the demographics of the United States shift.

Even after it was called.... he swore uncounted counties were coming in that would change it.

Instead of counting polls these guys should have been counting how many people were streaming into our country to realize the (new) American dream.
