As election 2012 rolled to a close, it appears Danno was right again. (as I am 90% of the time think you)

4 years ago right here at VJ I projected Obama would be a two termer with confidence.

I underestimated his performance and then about a year ago I down graded the election to a near coin toss and I was pretty much right.

Had Romney pulled off a win I would have singled out Mr. Big dog to rub his nose in the loss but as it turns out "his guy" won so perhaps it is only fair that I likewise publicly acknowledge his victory.

Uh. The election results were a little more than "a coin toss" ... Romney got owned.

Come up for air... and when you do cite a little history to show you know what you are even talking about.

Chew on this one.

1984

Ronald Reagan 525 Elect. votes to Walter Mondales 13

So Romney didn't get owned? You think it was close? Okay then.

Not sure what posting an even more lopsided victory does to prove your point, but I appreciate the effort.

This is the reason why they keep posting: http://dangerousminds.net/comments/math_you_do_as_a_republican_to_make_yourself_feel_better

DO you know what it means to "put things in proportion".

If "he got owned" means anything from -tremendous loss to a split vote..... well then ok.

WOW .... like Gore got OWNED MAN!

Romney won one swing state. But yeah. You're right. A coin toss. Could've gone either way.

one would have to be aware of the voting outcomes... historically to even know what a coin-toss means on election day.

Forgive me for assuming.

So tell me what you mean by a coin toss. Enlighten me since you're so much more intelligent than I am. A coin toss, to me, says there's a 50/50 chance.

The result, in the end, was that it wasn't close.

not coin toss does not necessarily mean landslide.

I didn't think so, but what do I know!

It certainly was not close. Not a ridiculous landslide by the standards of what Danno posted, but not even close.

Okay, we know that math is not something Republicans are crazy about or any good at. But let's try the perspective you want to look at:

2000

Bush

271 Electoral Votes, 47.9% popular vote

Gore

266 Electoral Votes, 48.4% popular vote

271 > 266 but 47.9 < 48.4

That is called a close election seeing that the candidate with the most popular votes failed to garner sufficient electoral votes. The candidate with the electoral vote victory won by 2 electoral votes - or 0.75%. Looking at the electoral college vote margin, Bush won the electoral college with 50.4%

2012

Obama

332 Electoral votes, 50.0% popular vote

Romney

206 electoral votes, 48.0% popular vote

332 >> 206 and 50 > 48

Obama won the popular vote quite clearly getting roughly 3 million more votes than Romney and he won the electoral college decisively by 63 electoral votes - or 23%. Looking at the electoral college vote margin, Obama won the electoral college with 61.7%.

This math lesson is free of charge for you, Danno. You're welcome.

My Gore-Bush remarks were in jest.

This is what a landslide looks like.
