Zhenya and I went to gether to the Embassy at 6:30 am (We stayed in an apartment the building next door) We were very surprised to be ther an hour and a half early and there were 3 families ahead of us (8 people total).

The gate opened at 7:45 and let through first 10 people to prime the pump...we went in after the guard checked our passports.

Inside we went through metal detectors and then onto a window where they looked at our passports again and checked Zhenya's name on the list...they sent us to the windows 1 2 or 3 - They don't tell you wnat you will do or what is to be expected...just to go and wait. I was really surprised to see that 90% of the employees at the embassy are Russians. Some barely speak english.

We waited for 20 minutes until the blinds on the window opened and they called Zhenya's name...(we were the second name called) The woman at window #2 (she smelled like a sewer) began to ask for all of our documents...No evidence...just documents. Once she had collected everything (3 minutes or so) she put all of our papers into our foldre and said to have a seat and we would be called for the interiew.

We sat for about 30 or 40 minutes waiting...(I was thinking we would be escorted back to someone's office and have the big official interview, I was very wrong) - Finally a man's voice comes from Window #2 and calls her name. We go up tp the window together. I see him and I know instantly everything is going to be fine! He is a young American guy! Maybe 30 years old, shaved bald, looking stylish and smiling ear to ear. He says to Zhenya "Oh! Is this your Fiance?" She says yes. He says Hi to me and asks us both to raise our right hands for the oath...

I say to him then "You're an American!" He laughs and say Yes. I said "where are you from?" and he says "Colorado" - I tell him I was born in Denver and we both laughed and he mentioned "what a small world - 2 Colorado boys so far from home".

He said to Zhenya "How did you meet?" She told him in Moscow. He said Oh, So how many times have you seen eachother in person? She said 6 times...Moscow, Kiev, Nizhny Novgorod, Domonican Republic, Kiev again and now Moscow again" then She looks at me and says "Honey, can you show him the photos?" - I take a photobook from our bag with pictures of our trip to the Dominican from this summer and I slide it under to him...and I say "We spent a month in the Dominican with all of my kids in the summer" - He looked through the book very quickly, smiling...and says "looks like you guys had fun!"

He slides the book back under and says "Well, You're approved!...Congratulations! ...You should see the visa in a few days"

The entire interview took less time than it is taking me to write this...It was definitely 3 min or less...We were both shocked!! We just hugged and kissed right there at the window and went almost skipping through the embassy.

FYI to those going after us...the Medical day was much more difficult and taxing than the interview day.

We hired a car for the entire day on the medical day, Thank God! I have read about some people taking the subway through this medical day and I can't imagine it...But, it is all behind us now! ))))

Thank you to all VJ'ers who helped us so much!!!!

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."
