Those classes are not unique to Nigeria. My father, a retired university professor in the US has never used a computer and never will. The books he has written are done long hand. My mother still cannot attach photos to her e-mails while my wife from SEA with only a minimal education knows heaps more about computers than I ever will and schools me regualrly on stuff. My comment was based more on the fact the story seemed like nonsense that based on the fact his fiancee could get on MSN but not yahoo the OP had a friend help register "his" account on msn so when the CO checked into the e-mail address it came back to someone else's name. That sounds more than a little fishy to me.

I agree with you. My own email address on yahoo was set up by my sister. I had never any use for the Internet or even an email address until I met my husband. So, when he asked me to open an email account so we could chat, preferably yahoo. I called my sister and asked her to help out and she used MY NAME. And thanks to my husband i became computer literate in a hurry as we became more innovative in our communication. There are just so many issues which he needs to address before he can hope for an approval.

Ok well now that Im hearing some of these responses to the CO its kind of hard to blame them. Next time please avoid discussing how you're fiancee's retirement plan. also your answer to the email thing was kind of off its not a matter of nigerians being computer literate, its just doesnt sound logical granted the email thing is petty it might of came off that you were lying. No offense.

y 2 cents , my 1st email someone helped me to set up I always put my first name as "JAY" so one cannot tell if am man or woman

I have done a data entry contract for a company for a month , send and get my emails, also forward; I am also a writer and I sometimes can export to my email to send and at times struggle to do without help from my kids, so I do understand what some ppl are saying but would be good idea for OP to create a new email with correct info. But I get a desperation sound from from OP

its okay to be nervous but dont come off so desperate. good luck

Speaking strictly about the email, could it be prudent for the CO to request additional data/details from the applicant instead of issuing an outright denial?

It doesnt seem like its just the email, IMO the retirement plan thing was way worst.

Bingo. It's sheer ridiculousness.

Also just about a week ago, a CO got furious because the beneficiary showed a picture of her and her Fiance taken in front (ish) of the embassy? It's a freaking government building that belongs to the tax paters for the love of God.

I was in an embassy once and a friend of mine outside innocently took pictures. Guards came and threatened him and said they were about to haul him off to jail. I begged and pleaded and they let him go.

It is a security risk and no pics are allowed but geez !

today my sister friend came to visit. she is from Nigeria so I asked her whats the deal with Lagos embassy making things so difficult for Nigerians to get visa. she was laughing. she said the embassy is not even catching half of the fraudsters. She tell me Nigeria is full of scam artists not just for visa but for anything else. She was telling me how she buy case of sardines and 2 cans had fish and the rest sand lol. She tell me many of her personal experiences...Her point to me was that things in Nigeria is very crazy and ppl here in USA just dont get it. I never been to Nigeria and this woman is defintely not a hater of her own country and I listen to her carefully and it seem there are just so many scammers that the embassy really cant separate who is who. I think its really unfortunate that legit couples suffer bcoz of this but embassy just trying their best to do their job so cant really blame them.

Nigeria is not the only country with fraud and corruption but it was picked to be the poster child for scams.

Is it really so unlike the Wall Street corruption by wealthy people in high places with brief cases instead of sardine cans full of sand, who crash the housing market in their fine Italian leather shoes ? Those in the banking bubble who exploit home owners knowingly and foreclose ? I have been doing a lot of thinking about my own country's corruption lately, with their high profile and mostly secret oil and political fraud and corruption agendas. Fraud dressed in suits walking down Wall Street may not be as evident but will be continually exposed by good journalism for us to watch on Frontline in our living rooms instead of observed in the African markets. Just a little perspective to keep it balanced.

I agree with QueenE, the way you talk about the marriage it sounds more like you're going there to be a nurse than actually marry someone. The email was probably the nail in the coffin, I get a dozen Nigerian scams a day you want anything you do on the internet to be 100% normal.

yea definitely. I just think when there is history of fraud its makes it just so much more difficult and the embassy sometimes can't really figure it out I dare say they take some guesses about which relations are bonafide??

I agree the email issue and "retirement provision" could be misunderstood as in bring me here and I will be in your debt to be your care taker.

well rade2rising i understand what you are saying.. Well i don't Blame the CO, we know Nigerians are really invovled in all kind of ###### ,but to me America is not a place were u go and your life will automatically change for the good...Like i said before,i don't blame the consulate because they have seen many fraud cases and they don't know how to separate the good from the bad ...Is really Difficult ,but anyway i know God's hands is in this ,so everything will be put in order before any futher step is taken.. But i will still like to know how many months it will take the Embassy to send the Case back to National Visa Center....
