How long does it take until you receive green card?

Hi Tommy SD,

Just to recap here, you said you have the I-551 STAMP in your passport, correct..??..we;; from what was explained to me by my lawyer, I too got the stamp which in itself is equal to the Green Card because its an assurance from USCIS that they have in fact approved you. This Green Card that is spoken about is simply another item of proof of your APPROVAL and is not the mythical object of totality in respect of your status.

The fact that they stamped your passport giving you LPR Status is equal to any other form of confirmation of status including the Green Card itself.

My lawyer was precise in his explaination of what the stamp meant advising me that I was free to travel, get employment or anything else that my new status afforded me as in the STAMP IN THE PASSPORT.

If you research the definition of APPROVAL it tells you about the I-551 Stamp and the Green Card and what they mean and that if the marriage is less than 2 years old at approval then it is a conditional Status, being that it remains that way until 2 years pass and you have the conditions lifted, then if all is in order then you get the 10 year Green Card but it also tells you that the card is simply a means of proving your status and even if you failed to renew the 10 year card when it expires it does not change your status in the records of the USCIS it only makes it harder to prove that status should you be asked to do so.

I am passing on this information to you and hope it helps you to understand better what you already have in the STAMP IN PASSPORT and that you have at least 1 year and 9 months from date of Approval to get the card which I'm sure is in process right now.

From my understanding of the facts the above is true and if anyone can demonstrate otherwise I would be more than happy to bow to their more extensive knowledge.

Good Luck ... Gladdy :D:D

Gladdy,

Thank you for the explanation. I know I shouldn't be worried but it's just me :P It's very kind of you to let me know the means of the I-551 stamp and etc :) Thank you very much I really appreciate it.

Tomo

I was wondering how long you guys waited until you received your green card after the approval. I have been approved on October 19th and I have yet to receive either a Welcome letter/Green card. I was told that I would recieve it in a few weeks but I started to worry if they might not even proceeding my green card! Since I got a second fingerprints notice after the approval for AOS and it turned out to be their mistake to send the second fingerprints notice, I am worried that at some point my case went wrong or something... My FBI name check has been cleared and I have a temporary stamp for I-551 in my passport. My husband and I would like to move out here as soon as we receive my green card and we don't want to waste our time...anyone has any ideas? Should I call and ask them? I know it is a little too soon to tell but I got a bad feeling! Please advise.

1st of all, you've been already approved. Congratulations! Welcome to America!

2nd of all, they told you "a few weeks," so it will and/or could be a few weeks.

Now I ask you:

1. You've already been approved, so what on Earth would make you believe your GC is not being processed?

2. You've already been approved, so YOU MADE IT ALREADY! There are no mistakes, nor is there anything wrong with your case. I mean, isn't this what you wanted, APPROVAL?

3. You've already been approved AND told you would get your card. Now, why are you in such a hurry to get your card? Going somewhere out of town? Why would you, AFTER getting approved, go out of your way and bash as incompetent those very same people that gave you what you wanted? Geez!

I mean, I had to wait 9 mos. to be born, against my will, but I knew it would happen eventually. I just had to be patient.

Ever heard the saying: good things come to those who wait in life?

Hi there,

Well, I have to say that I would really appreciate it if you could pick your words, because I took your response a little offensive or maybe my English is not good enough to comprehend what you told me.

Anyway, upon your request, I will answer to your questions.

1, Thank you very much for congratulating me to be here :)

2, I know I shouldn't be worried and I know it's too soon to be worried but I hear that people got their green card within 5 days, 10 days, 12 days... so that just made me think, mmm...maybe there might be something wrong with my case. Plus I am pregnant so my hormones can go everywhere! lol but no excuses...So I came to conclusion that a large amount of information could possibly cause confusion, well at least to me but yet I can't help but seek for more information. It doesn't make sence. :P

1&2, I think that just because I received my second fingerprints notcie after approval and that is obviously

their mistake and my online case hasn't been updated and I was told at the interview it would be updated in a few days and it's been 2 weeks since the interveiw.

3, We would like to move out where we live asap because of financial difficulty, if I were a billionaire, I wouldn't worry about it :P

Actually I have never heard of that saying (I am from Japan) but I will keep that in mind! I can be a little inpatient sometimes. Thank you for your advise.

Thanks.

Yep...no green card yet...it's been almost 3 weeks since my case has been approved...anyone, any idea? It seems like people get their green card very quick after the approval...

I went to get my SSN (I came here as a visitor) but they didn't let me make one just because the valid date of the stamp in my passport is November 17th 2006. :( They told me if I had gone there to apply before Friday, they could have issued one for me. I am sorry for the whining :(

Hey, just saw this thread and wanted to say that your response is not only condescending and rude, but its also extremely wrong.

If you read through this site you can find some examples of people who waiting, assuming nothing was wrong, and guess what: Something was wrong. Its best to keep on the ball with these things and check in with USCIS. Sure they might be slow, but it also might be one of the other possibilities:

1. Green Card sent, but returned for some reason

2. Case file lost at USCIS

3. Workers forgot about your case

4. Changed their mind after the interview.

All the above have happened and can happen again. Being complacent is no way to be with this process.

Its rare, but I personally know of someone this happened to. They were actually called back into the office, had the green card stamp removed from their passport and were given back their EAD.

Look at making an InfoPass appointment now for the days before your stamp expires. Normally the officer tries to give you a stamp that is only valid for as long as you need it--it's a bit wierd that yours only gave you one month, but she must've thought you would get your card in time. If you have not received your card by the time of your appiontment, you can inquire at that time about your card order.

Your officer had to send out an order to your Service Center for the card production and sometimes, things go slower than they should. You should not compare your case to what happened to anyone else, becasue it depends completely on the District Office, the Service Center and the time your order was submitted. So it doesn't matter if someone got theirs in five days--there are just as many people who waited five months.

Green Cards *typically* come within 4 weeks. Now you have a solution and a plan. As soon as you make that appointment, Murphy's Law dictates tht your card will arrive the next day. :)

Murphy's law is a popular adage in Western culture that most likely originated at Edwards Air Force Base in 1948. The Law broadly states that things will go wrong in any given situation, if you give them a chance.

It's also used to say that something turns out the opposite of what you plan for.

You said that your stamp is valid until November 17, 2006. Today is November 8. Don't wait too long to book an appointment--sometimes it takes a while. If you need to cancel an appointment you've made, you can do that online as well.

Hope you see that card soon--don't worry so much! :star:
