How long does it take until you receive green card?

Hi everyone,

I have been asking a lot of questions here and I love Visa Journy! It is very helpful and it's nice to know that there are other people going through the same thing :)

I was wondering how long you guys waited until you received your green card after the approval. I have been approved on October 19th and I have yet to receive either a Welcome letter/Green card. I was told that I would recieve it in a few weeks but I started to worry if they might not even proceeding my green card! Since I got a second fingerprints notice after the approval for AOS and it turned out to be their mistake to send the second fingerprints notice, I am worried that at some point my case went wrong or something... My FBI name check has been cleared and I have a temporary stamp for I-551 in my passport. My husband and I would like to move out here as soon as we receive my green card and we don't want to waste our time...anyone has any ideas? Should I call and ask them? I know it is a little too soon to tell but I got a bad feeling! Please advise.

Thank you as always!

I was approved on 24th October and received my Welcome Notice on Monday 30th October. I’ve been checking my case status online and the status changed to show when they mailed the Welcome Notice and I assume it’ll change again to show when they mail the Green Card.

If you haven’t checked your status online give it a go, maybe it’ll help you in the same way it helped me. I’d also recommend that you put you’re name on or inside you’re mail box, I’ve had an EAD returned to USCIS for that very reason.

Good Luck! :)

Yep. I have been checking my online status too but it hasn't been changed since my interview date which is October 19th and my other one that is for I-130 says it's been approved and I received the letter saying I-130 was approved. So I think I should be a little patient about this and wait... I know I have been approved but I just need an ACTUAL green card to move out this place :( This waiting game is taking its toll!

I had my interview last Friday in Fresno, CA, and the agent told me that my card could take up to 5 weeks to arrive due to the holiday season (yes, I know it makes no sense considering it was still October when I was interviewed, but go figure these govt. jobs!). I'm preparing myself to wait that long, but hopefully I'll receive my letter this week and my card in a few weeks, like some other people did here on the VJ.

I wish you the best!

My story:

09/23/2002 - Met Chris online, there was something very special about this guy =0)

07/16/2006 - We got married in Reno, Nevada.

USCIS:

08/13/2006 - Filed for AOS, AP, EAD - they were VERY carefully packaged with a detailed cover sheet on top of each of the forms, just as VJ's instructions recommend. It was A LOT of work, but it did pay off! (we firmly believe this is what sped up our process big time)

08/31/2006 - Biometrics appointment

09/09/2006 - Received my AOS appointment date!

10/26/2006 - EAD touched and AP APPROVED!

10/27/2006 - AOS appointment at 7:30 AM! APPROVED IN EXACTLY 70 DAYS!!!

11/01/2006 - EAD approved

11/02/2006 - Email notification - greencard will be mailed as soon as it is ready! YAY again!

11/02/2006 - Welcome to the United States of America letter in the mail! Almost there! =)

11/06/2006 - EAD card and White card (a.k.a. greencard) arrive in the mail!

Journey Total Duration: 80 days

Filed for removal of conditions on 07-28-2008 and had them removed on 09-10-2008

Kind of like the old Tootsie roll pop commercial

"how many licks.."

How long..?

How many hours,

How many days,

How many weeks,

How many months,

How many lost nights of sleep,

How many lost hours of work,

How many dollars spent

How many documents to file

How many interviews or appts. to attend

How many days seperated from loved ones

Just How many Touches does it take, to get ones Green Card?

Answer: The World may never Know, USCIS sure doesn't!

Hi Tommy SD,

Just to recap here, you said you have the I-551 STAMP in your passport, correct..??..we;; from what was explained to me by my lawyer, I too got the stamp which in itself is equal to the Green Card because its an assurance from USCIS that they have in fact approved you. This Green Card that is spoken about is simply another item of proof of your APPROVAL and is not the mythical object of totality in respect of your status.

The fact that they stamped your passport giving you LPR Status is equal to any other form of confirmation of status including the Green Card itself.

My lawyer was precise in his explaination of what the stamp meant advising me that I was free to travel, get employment or anything else that my new status afforded me as in the STAMP IN THE PASSPORT.

If you research the definition of APPROVAL it tells you about the I-551 Stamp and the Green Card and what they mean and that if the marriage is less than 2 years old at approval then it is a conditional Status, being that it remains that way until 2 years pass and you have the conditions lifted, then if all is in order then you get the 10 year Green Card but it also tells you that the card is simply a means of proving your status and even if you failed to renew the 10 year card when it expires it does not change your status in the records of the USCIS it only makes it harder to prove that status should you be asked to do so.

I am passing on this information to you and hope it helps you to understand better what you already have in the STAMP IN PASSPORT and that you have at least 1 year and 9 months from date of Approval to get the card which I'm sure is in process right now.

From my understanding of the facts the above is true and if anyone can demonstrate otherwise I would be more than happy to bow to their more extensive knowledge.

Good Luck ... Gladdy :D:D

1st of all, you've been already approved. Congratulations! Welcome to America!

2nd of all, they told you "a few weeks," so it will and/or could be a few weeks.

Now I ask you:

1. You've already been approved, so what on Earth would make you believe your GC is not being processed?

2. You've already been approved, so YOU MADE IT ALREADY! There are no mistakes, nor is there anything wrong with your case. I mean, isn't this what you wanted, APPROVAL?

3. You've already been approved AND told you would get your card. Now, why are you in such a hurry to get your card? Going somewhere out of town? Why would you, AFTER getting approved, go out of your way and bash as incompetent those very same people that gave you what you wanted? Geez!

I mean, I had to wait 9 mos. to be born, against my will, but I knew it would happen eventually. I just had to be patient.

Ever heard the saying: good things come to those who wait in life?
