I was wondering if someone knows of a site such as VJ for Immigrating to Canada. I figure that we could apply in both the USA & Canada and live in the one that comes through first.

technically, either or both countries could deny your applications on the grounds that you do not intend to settle in that country, as evidenced by the petition/application to the other.

Yeah, stupid, but it happens.

I think there is a Yahoo group with information about immigrating to Canada via spouse sponsorship, but I can't remember the name of it. And there may be some info on British Expats.

Basically, choose a country and try that one first. If you dont' like it, try the next one.

Don't be discouraged by the lack of touches! I had one touch between when I sent in my petition and when it was approved. They don't necessarily mean anything other than 'someone moved the file'; it's just their internal tracking of your petition.

Reba brings up a good concern. But there's other practical considerations. Filing fees for both countries, compiling the packages for both countries, preparing for the interview in both countries. Not to mention your own desire, presumably, to have something about your future settled.

I had both US & canada applications pending (by accident) and was still able to get the canadian visa, but I have read that was a goof... I shouldn't have been able to do that.

britishexpats was really helpful for me. I got my Canadian PR no questions asked all the while my husband's US immigration was pending. maybe someone COULD have their apps kicked out based on applying to both countries-but what are the odds that some immigration official is going to care enough to check to see if you are applying to the other country?

Just real quick I sent mine in August and the first touch was yesterday so......The normal processing time for California (Nebraska and Texas goes there as well) is a MINIMUM of 2 months right now.....You just had your NOA1 so be patient..... Vermont is much faster with about 2 weeks but you cant rely on that since you filed in nebraska.

The only reason I was asking is that Sharon asks which would be better and easier for us, her coming here or my going there. My reply is my going there because of everything we have there, we have been setting up the house in thte way we like. I gave my daughter everything I have here minus photos and my clothing.

I did go and lok at the CIC site and saw that spouses are allowed in the country during the immigration process which the States would not. We will stick with the system we are in right now an hopefully I will land in the home State of Toto and Dorothy and not too far from thier hometown of Liberal.

Thank you everyone for the information you have provided it will be very useful if ever a denial is recieved. We are just looking at options since have past our prime and want settle comfortably together.

P.S. We aren't worried about the touches they will come when their time is due and not before.
