I understand what you are saying Gary. The wife and I were just talking about that today. Trying to find a way to get our income down below the magic 250K number, but haven't figured it out yet. We will be working less and doing a lot more for cash and changing our retirement so we can contribute a huge amount. It's the way to play the game now that the rules are about to change.

First world problems.

This is actually a growing trend, people who would never consider getting getting anything more than a tax deduction are now feeling "why not" ride in the wagon rather than push.

It's the stealing the flatware on the titanic mentality.

It's going down why not get what I can.

The Titanic took minutes to sink, the country has a number of years so why not get what you can.

This mood kinda reminds me of life back in New Jersey and the Insurance situation.

The more the State required everyone to pay (so that bad drivers could afford to be insured) the more insurance fraud was acceptable to everyone.

Really? I will pull my own weight best I can regardless of who occupies the White House. And I'll always be better off that way than those that chose not to pull their own weight. Again, regardless of who occupies the White House. It's just the kind of guy I am. Driven by my own initiative and driven by wanting to do right by myself, my family, my community and my country. But that's just me. Apparently, folks like Gary and yourself are quite bit weaker in their convictions. *shrugs*

Arrrgh, why am I out of +1s for the day?! This post is great.

Hey I admire your commitment to pulling the wagon while a growing amount of others ride free.

I referred to a growing trend I have watched among people I know of directly or indirectly. Years ago unemployment payments were they only source of "collecting" I ever heard of in my immediate and outer circle.

Now people feel absolutely no embarrassment at getting freebies from the gov. and so naturally more and more people collect when they can, even if they have to "move things around" to get covered under such programs.

Thank you for adding to the discourse on VJ because we all deeply care about your plans.

Thanks for taking the time to read and respond. Much appreciated. +1

I've known plenty people who will take the free ride. People on both sides of the Atlantic. I have too much self respect to join them. I have always worked and earned everything I've owned. I've never taken benefits and I've always paid my share of taxes.

I will never understand the people who will sit with their hands out taking whatever they can get and never contributing a penny back to the society that is supporting them. Or the ultra rich who earn millions and billions and wouldn't pay a dime in taxes if they could get away with it.

It's better to give than to receive and it feels good to have dignity and self respect so I'll be pushing that wagon with you Mr Big Dog.

Thank you for your contribution. You will be pleased to know you will be saving me more than $1000 per month in medical expenses alone...but you wanted free medical care and now I am going to get it!

+1. Thank you Big Dog! Please keep suporting the public benefits programs. I will join the 47% that the winner, Barack Obama, proudly claimed to represent. He's my homey, Barack is. And now I am going to save craploads of money and probably buy a lobster dinner now and again. I know I cannot buy wine with the food stamps but I can buy it with the cash I save on insurance.

Hey I am just jumping on this bandwagon that you are pushing. You won!

I'm not going to steal anything. I am not going to cheat on taxes. There is no fraud. I am going to USE the tax code and welfare system written by the politicians to my advantage. Everything will be 100% legal. I will live in the same house, drive the same cars, wear the same clothes, go on the same vacations. My insurance will cost me $49 per month for the family, $147 after Pasha turns 18. No deductibles, no co-pays. That's more than $200 per month addl just for my medications (insulin dependent diabetic and heart medications) Heating assistance, food stamps, and I am still checking into other stuff. No taxes to pay, increased grants for education. I will probably add a vacation to the mix or at least go skiing more.

I absolutely could not do this without the Democrats who I thank wholeheartedly. I have been a fool, I should have listened to you all along. I will probably vote Democrat all the time now and defend all this stuff because, hey, I want to keep it.

Thank you, thank you. You won!

so it sounds like the government DOES run healthcare better than the private sector, based on your analysis

Not at all. I am very happy. My employment status will change January 1. I will file for benefits after 30 days of reduced income. By February I will be saving more than $3000 per month in medical costs, food costs, heating costs and INCOME TAX. Really, that s a LOT of hours I can cut and be with my family. In fact a lot of people live quite well on that much and I can still make up to $2800 per month and qualify for all those benefits with a family of 3. So make $2800, then save $3000 on top of that (maybe more!) and we are at a comparative income of $5800 per month combined job income and benefits. OH YEAH! We are there, baby! I am convinced. You got me! Alla is in nursing school and we will reapply for her grants once I reduce the income. We made too much to qualify before. What a fool I was! We can look forward to paying a lot less for Pasha's education.

Working is stupid, unless you are making an awful lot of money, the government has made it very profitable to simply lay back, work a little and suck up the good stuff. Barack wins, I am going to join them!
