good morning everyone i was just wondering something my husband and i have our interview on Dec 6, 2012 which is on a thursday i know that NVC tells you not to make any travel arrangement until after interview but everyone knows how times are right now and Dec flights are so expensive that i rather purchase my tickets now than after our interview being so that i have faith in God that everything is going to well God willing i feel an approval coming along so my question is..... is Dec 13th 2012 enough time for my husband to have his visa in hand ??? thats the day i plan to purchase tickets for please help and don't forget to keep my husband i in your prayers.....

I think the safer way is to wait for his visa to be approved and be on his hands.

I love your positive energy... But I wouldn't risk it until I for sure have the VISA IN MY HANDS... You know how slow DR tends to be, some people have had luck and getting the visa issued within a couple of day from the day of the interview while other have waited about 1wk from interview. I would wait because then it will be harder for you in the event you have to pay for the cancellation of his flight if he doesn't get to travel by 12/13. Just a thought to think about in my opinion. Good luck on the decision you make.

Not smart purchasing in advance. Trust me. my husband was put in AP for 10 weeks, it would have been a waste of $1200 had we got the ticket in advance. Having trust in God doesn't mean he will be approved that day...just sayin'

I would wait, unless you plan on purchasing refundable tickets. I purchased one ways and will wait until we have the visa in hand before purchasing return tickets.

Things can(and will;)) go well, unfortunately it still can take 2 weeks or so to get the visa in hand so I would say wait. Or at least get the tickets for no less than 10 business days from the date of the interview. Again this is risky, because if you have to change the flight it will cost you $100-$150 fee plus whatever the fare difference is.

The advise from UCSIS is DO NOT MAKE ANY TRAVEL ARRANGEMENT UNTIL... and it is there for a VERY good reason. Have you considered how little you know of the future? You can guess, but do you know? When you have the visa in hand, actually physically in the hand, then you can safely make any travel arrangements. And you will have complete peace about booking the flight because you know you can do it without risk. The difference in prices is negligible, and you may even get a cheaper deal through a standby deal on one of the many flight sites.

As everyone else has said, I wouldn't want to risk it. There have been people who have had very smooth interviews and still had to wait a few more days, even weeks to receive the passport. It would be smart for you to pick it up. My husband got his passport 3 days after the interview but I'm guessing that's because he lived very closed to the consulate. And even then, we didn't buy the tickets together. Don't risk it, because technically you really don't know how the Domex office works. Especially during this season when they're busy the most. however, wish you the best!!! And everything will go fine. Just keep having the patience you've been having all this time!! :star::star:

Actually is less! After the interview is approved, they will give you a green slip to go down to the domex desk and there you will ask to pick it up. It's faster, if your husband doesnt live in the capital it will be best for you guys to do that. That way you can check up on it every day until it's ready for pick up.

The visa is valid typically for 6 months, so there is no hurry in him coming to the US. If being together is important for the holidays, then visit him in the DR and then you both can return to the US--as long as you have vacation time from work. My wife's visa was delayed do to the printer not working, so anything can happen.

Do as you will. If you plan to buy the ticket before his visa is in hand might I suggest you buy a lottery ticket as well.

Good luck,

Dave

It's crazy...I purchased my tickets as soon as i received the interview date :bonk: (I called it nervous wrecking). But as everyone states it's a risk a chance your taking.:( I said hell with it.. ..we're finally together, we're leaving together and definitely loving to sit together :luv:

I calculated my time off and the time for him to get the visa in hand (7 business days):wow: but we got it before...

My heart jumped of joy and I quickly didn't think twice about it. (that was my decision)

Dios esta presente todo el tiempo :star::yes: in any and every decision you make!!!:luv:

It's always smart to wait until you have the visa in hand then purchase the ticket, unless you have extra change to spare and don't mind the re-ticketing fee and price difference

Good luck!

You know the risks from the other posts. If you really want to, check the policies to refund or change the ticket. You may find that you can change the tickets for a fee that is reasonable enough to take the risk.
