hi everyone, i'm a son of a u.s citizen from florida and a registered nurse, my mother filed an I-130 form last year and i checked the uscis website and on their bulletin, the priority date for the philippines of first preference(unmarried son of us citizen over 21)is july 1997 while those in second preference(unmarried son of permanent immigrant) is feb. 2002, does it mean it would have been faster if i have been petioned while she was an immigrant? any similar cases in this forum?

I want to know how many years I have to wait to get a green card? is there a different processing time when im from the philippines?

hope you guys could answer my questions, thanks and god bless!

Yes, your category would have been faster if your mom had petitioned you as a greencard holder, because the priority date/ "waiting list" depends on how many people are ahead of you, as there are only a certain number of visas available for each category/ country each year.

You are looking at a wait of 15+ years; of course, this can go up or down by a few years during your wait.

Also, keep in mind, that if you GET MARRIED while your F1 petition is in process, you will be transferred to another category with a much longer waiting time which is the F3 category.

yes, you can have more than one petition in the works.

I would suggest you check the retrogression in that category.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
