howtosurvive your green card will be approved through Vawa, then getting divorced or not before applying for Citizenship will not have any effect in your case . Uscis published a memorandum stating "The ongoing validity or the termination of the marriage to the U.S. citizen will not be determinative of eligibility under Section 319(a) of a battered spouse or child..."

Section 319(a) is for applicants applying for Citizenship who acquired lawful permanent resident status based in domestic violence.

You can file for naturalization after 3 years of becoming a LPR since you will obtain your LPR under VAWA.

My attorney told me I need to wait for my GC so I can apply for fafsa. My I360 was approved and my case was transferred to my local office on May 14th of this year. Should I ask her to renew it so I can apply for benefits or do I need to wait like said?

US Senate Committee approves to give work permits to victims of violence EFE

News USA Immigration More

Washington, 20 may (EFE).-us the Senate Judiciary Committee.UU. approved today to voice a measure that grants work permits to victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse, to start the fourth day of debate on amendments to the Bill for comprehensive immigration reform.

The amendment, proposed by the Chairman of the Committee, Democrat Patrick Leahy, authorizing a work permit for survivors of domestic violence, rape or sex trafficking.

The amendment, which has received the support of more than 160 civic organizations throughout the country, is one of more than 30 that will be debated throughout the day today, which will focus on programs for the legalization of the undocumented population.

According to the text of the amendment, the Department of Homeland Security would have to approve a work permit for these immigrants within the 180 days since your application is presented.

The measure does not provide any federal benefits but, according to Leahy, streamlines procedures for obtaining a work permit. Currently, survivors of domestic violence often have to wait for at least 16 months when they apply for visas "T" and "U", granted under a federal law.

This delay limits access to financial resources of the victims, leaving them in a "vulnerable position" that it makes it difficult to escape abusive situations, he explained the Leahy Office.

Leahy, Democrat Senator for Vermont, applauded the adoption of his amendment to point out that all too often those who abuse their victims do because they can "exploit the financial dependence" of these immigrants.

Leahy is the author of the extension of a federal law, enacted in March passed and known by its acronym in English VAWA ("Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act"), which provides protections to victims of domestic violence, including immigrants.

Since the debate began the last day 9, the Senate Judiciary Committee has analysed around a hundred amendments to the reform plan presented on April 17 by the "group of eight" Democrats and Republicans in the upper Chamber.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of representatives of the United States has reached an agreement in principle on their own version of immigration reform, without disclosing more details or a timetable for debate. EFE

I know it's because the TB test was positive but I don't understand why it was positive because a year and a half ago it was negative. Has anyone ever had a positive skin test then have a negative X-ray.?

Cc1988. It could mean you actively have the bacteria in u that causes the virus that doesn't mean you have Tb but was exposed to it. That's one rational or you irritated the skin where the PPD was planted and it caused an induration greater than 10mm which is considered a positive for a non health care worker or 5mm if u work in the healthcare or any industry that deal with immigrants, this is called a false positive. The chest xray is to rule out or rule positive tb. Immigration can deny u on a basis of commucable desease so be careful. If ur positive they will quarinteen u and anyone in your household and possibly ur job but don't freak out if it could be a false positive.

Not virus I meant disease. And not desease I meant disease. Typos arggg!
