CC1988.FAFSA is regarding Federal Student Aid and I have just basic knowledge about that since it's not my field. You have to inquire about Fafsa with the University. because I just understand and handle with Immigration Law.I am sorry I can't help you with questions regarding Fafsa.

sandraj I have a question. If I did not renew my prima facie because my I360 got approved and I wasn't able to get food stamps or child care help. Can I still apply for fafsa? Can I still attend school and apply for financial aid? Any info will help thanks!

As to answer your question short, yes you can apply for FASFA, assuming that you have SSN or itn number. Title 5 has nothing to do with your SNAP benefits.

lank, it would be great if u clarified. Did u mention that immigration was asking your landlord to actually send them your lease? Maybe the whole inquiry with your landlord came from entirely different source than VSC? Who knows of any inquiries of this nature ever performed by VAWA adjudicators?

vawa 2013 The lady from leasing management called me and said that somebody from immigration department called and asked to confirm the time I was living there with my husband. I lived there with my husband for two years but when I filed I -360 I submitted only one year because I did not receive the second lease agreement yet. The person from immigration department requested to send him another year of lease ( which I found very weird). Now, I'm trying to figure out if my case was actually touched. Ombudsman office sent me email saying that they inquired from uscis that my case was expedited but it's been almost two weeks and I have not received anything from VAWA unit. So something is going on but I can't really understand what that it. I find all this situation weird and this waiting game is just killing me.

is this real? has VSC ever asked a third party to send them something, rather than issue RFE??

P.S. isn't there risk in the alleged above VSC action that the abusive spouse finds out? I mean, if Landlord asked Petitioner's permission to release, wouldn't the Landlord also ask the Offending Spouse's permission??

IANK USCIS can inquiry if the alien lived there or not, but there is no way they would ask the landlord to submit to Vawa Unit any document regarding you or about the lease, because in order to do that they have to give your case number and address to the landlord for him to submit and it will violate confidentiality and privacy provision of the Vawa Law. ..something is not right.

Sandranj can it be some other uscis department who could request this kind of information?

Iank As I said they can call to ask some questions, but they don't ask to the landlord/employers/friends to submit documents at all,in Vawa cases.Your case is with Vawa Unit then if the landlord received any phone call from USCIS then someone from Vawa Unit called.

Maybe greatest issues are that no DV shelter accepts males, that free legal advice is harder to come by, and that usually children are not helped with male petition?

So no one knows true percentages? Can anyone name any males who were approved?

Well just another datapoint on the timeline survey...

Filed last week in March, 2012. Got an RFE notice this week ( RFE still in the mail ). So I'm on schedule so far.

As for male applicants being denied more discussion. I believe someone did bring up some stats a while back and there was a huge difference. More than double the rejections if I remember correctly. Don't know how true that was though.

Men definitely have that stigma, and probably collect less evidence because of it. Call the cops on your wife because she's bullying you? A lot of men would assume they'd be the laughing stock of the community. Not to mention if anyone else found out. What if she started telling everyone you know. My first lawyer literally laughed at me when I finally brought up VAWA. He thought men filing under a domestic violence law was funny. But even before that, I threw away a ton of evidence, and failed to collect even more when I had the chance because I was educated about the law.

These factors are probably common enough to increase the denials is my opinion.

vawa2013 there are hundreds of DV shelters across the Country for male victims. We have here in this thread at least 3 males that I helped with their Vawa case and they are staying at the domestic violence male's shelter, one of the guys is there 5 months already.
