You actually can have biometrics taken at any ASC in the US. It doesn't have to be in your state or even the closest one to you. They just indicate the closest one to you for your convenience, because they figure that's the one most people will go to.

Omg i spoke to my lawyer today and he said he received notice for finger prints already and it was scheduled on 4/11/13!!!!! I had asked him so many times if he got the notice and he said no and just wait! And now he is saying " this supposed to be sent to your home too" ahh i cant believe this.

I know how you feel Irara I went to my lawyer a week ago an after letting him know how much I learnt mind you not a thing from him he casually went through my file and I found not ONE but TWO prima facies sitting there in my file one expired since February and the other in AUGUST these lawyers are ridiculous!!!!!!

Can anyone tell me if they were able to receive food stamps with their Prima Facie? My lawyer said you dont ever get it.

hypnos New York ,Connecticut,New Jersey and Boston do not allow to have fingerprints done if the alien lives in other State.

faithkeeper it depends of each State,some states give food stamp and medicaid,other just food stamps and other do not give at all.

There have been multiple examples of people in the upper AoS forums doing biometrics at a different office than was indicated on their appointment letter.

I don't know if those locations you mentioned were involved, but In general terms you can use any ASC. I haven't been able to find a source that says you must only use the ASC indicated, since all ASCs offer the same service, and all biometrics, once captured, are electronically transferred to the FBI and USCIS.

It's possible that there are some regional variations, but I wasn't able to find anything out about this.

Well just another datapoint on the timeline survey...

Filed last week in March, 2012. Got an RFE notice this week ( RFE still in the mail ). So I'm on schedule so far.

As for male applicants being denied more discussion. I believe someone did bring up some stats a while back and there was a huge difference. More than double the rejections if I remember correctly. Don't know how true that was though.

Men definitely have that stigma, and probably collect less evidence because of it. Call the cops on your wife because she's bullying you? A lot of men would assume they'd be the laughing stock of the community. Not to mention if anyone else found out. What if she started telling everyone you know. My first lawyer literally laughed at me when I finally brought up VAWA. He thought men filing under a domestic violence law was funny. But even before that, I threw away a ton of evidence, and failed to collect even more when I had the chance because I was educated about the law.

These factors are probably common enough to increase the denials is my opinion.

IANK the information the ombudsman gave you probably was not correct, because when Vawa Unit decides to expedite one case they work extremely fast.I saw some cases expedited and the decisions were given in 24 hours.

Sandranj can you please tell me how long the regular review takes by the officer? If they called and checked on the place where I used to live it means they started to work on my case... but this monday will be two weeks since they called and I did not hear anything from them yet. Don't really understand what is going on...

Iank when the adjudicator gets your file to adjudicate he/she will adjudicate in 30min. He will approve or deny or send you an RFE.They don't check your case a bit today, a little bit 2 days later, next week again, if they touch your case for adjudication they will do in minutes.

cieol14 just tell your friend to email saying she/he has a Vawa case pending with immigration, he/she does not have a social security number and she is having problem to apply for Fafsa because the system does not accept an alien without a social security number, and ask what does she have to do to apply for Fafsa in this case? .Mention her full name, present address and specify the school she wants to attend ok.

Faithkeeper you will be able to get food stamp in NY.

Financially-eligible non-citizens who qualify for New York State food stamps through the Food

Assistance Program (N.Y.S. SSL §95(10)) are:

1. The following persons:

a. Qualified Alien elderly adults (over age 60), and

b. Qualified Alien domestic violence survivors, who have had Qualified Alien status for less than five years.

I have some cases they got food stamp without any problem in NYC, but I know at least 5 people they denied.I think it depends how well informed the employee is about prima facie.

sandraj I have a question. If I did not renew my prima facie because my I360 got approved and I wasn't able to get food stamps or child care help. Can I still apply for fafsa? Can I still attend school and apply for financial aid? Any info will help thanks!

lank, it would be great if u clarified. Did u mention that immigration was asking your landlord to actually send them your lease? Maybe the whole inquiry with your landlord came from entirely different source than VSC? Who knows of any inquiries of this nature ever performed by VAWA adjudicators?
