Faithkeeper if your vawa is based just in mental abuse Then i think you should keep doing some therapy at least once a month, but if you suffered physical abuse as well and have police report and restraining order then you don't have to keep doing therapy. Did she diagnose you with major depression? Or pos traumatic disorder or anxiety? If not the chance to have vawa approve is not good tho.The psychologist must state she believes for all tests done and therapy that you suffered mental abuse. She has to describe how you described yourself before the abuse and how she sees you now. It's important to show that the person does not function properly like before, the quality of life changed after the abuse. The vawa unit needs to see substantial changes in the alien behavior when the evaluation was done,of course people improve with therapy and it's great .They sent RFE to 4 people that contacted me and they asked to describe evolution of the therapy, treatment, number of sessions etc

[/quote

I suffered no physical abuse only mental an emotional. She did tell me that she believes I suffered severe mental abuse based on my experiences. She advised me to continue seeing her but I couldnt afford the sessions at the time. What she stated in her final report im not sure I will call her to find out and maybe schedule a couple more sessions. I pray an seek God alot thats been my therapy but uscis wont understand that!

Hi Sandra and everyone

I have a small question. I read through the whole thread and I don't know why noone mentioned this.

So, I filed my VAWA about 13 months and I left my abusive husband also about that time but I have not filed the divorce. I keep asking my lawyer should I file the divorce now but she keeps saying no. I read a couple of other threads on google and some says I can and some says I should not. The problem is I'm having another boyfriend now and we're planing to get married but I know he won't propose until I get divorced because it would be awkward to propose to a married woman. I love him to death and I know he does too and we want to have kids as soon as possible (of course after the wedding, my family are really traditional). I am thinking about getting divorced now and get married to my new boyfriend when I have my approval but I'm worried the divorce would affect my VAWA decision. If I got denial, would it be tougher for me to reapply VAWA since I am already divorced.

Apple 2013 First of all if you want to get married then do it after you receive your green card, not just after vawa approval. It means at least 6/9months ahead. The divorce won't affect your Vawa case, if your divorce is finalized based in domestic violence it will help your Vawa case.

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to stop by and wish everyone the very best in their journey of having their I360 approved and finally getting their green cards. I went through the VAWA process 5 years ago, it took 20 months before my I360 was approved and today I had my bitter sweet ending when I finally became a US Citizen. I know how tough the wait can be, but just hang tight, keep praying, have faith and know that it will all work out for the best. Should anyone need advice or guidance on the process please feel free to contact me I'd be more than happy to share any info that I can. God bless you all.

Citragirl it won't affect your vawa case that he filed for divorce,if you filed form I-360 already you don't have to submit copy of the divorce now.I always advise all people that as soon you leave the house file for divorce based in abuse if you have police report and restraining order. It helps the vawa case having a divorce based in abuse, but it won't affect their decision if he filed for divorce not you.
