Online daters, disappointed by potential partners lying about their age, weight or marital status, are turning to professional matchmakers to find love. .... I know that, on some of those sites I kept seeing the same face on many different posts, just who are they trying to kid?

IMO, online dating was only a version of something well-known in India, the newspaper matrimonial ad.

That idea alone kept me away from those sites.

I saw some of those once. How come so many of them describe women as "homely"? Does this mean.. eh... domestic in Indian English?

close-enough-for-government-work. Many Indians (including my dad) don't understand that it DOES NOT mean "home-loving".

Also, (as you probably noted), many of the Indian ads use the words "beautiful" and "homely" to describe the SAME woman--which alone would bin Yodrak's idea of honesty in this context.

Means wasn't her fault. Another favorite of mine from Indian matri ads is how every girl is "fair". I go to India and I see plenty of "dark" girls, yet all the ones with ads in the papers are fair. LOL.

Means wasn't her fault. Another favorite of mine from Indian matri ads is how every girl is "fair". I go to India and I see plenty of "dark" girls, yet all the ones with ads in the papers are fair. LOL.
