I am curious if anyone (USC) has attended the tourist visa interview with the person applying in their home country or if this is even allowed? My friend said he went with his mother in law to the interview after a previous denial and explained why she wanted to come etc.. and they granted it. This was in Poland. My mother in law was denied and I was hoping if I go with her when she applies again it may be helpful. It is a hassle to send my wife with the baby on the plane and we would like for her to see where we live

I understand that you as an American citizen, you are allowed to enter the US embassy. I have heard many people that they went to their k1 interviews with their fiance/es (USC). So I guess there should not be any problem if you want to be with your mother in law at the tourist visa interview. You can always call her country US embassy and ask. Good luck!

I went with my MIL in Kiev Ukraine. The officer spent 10 minutes talking to me about Washington DC (he is from there and I live near there in Maryland) asked her 1 questions and approved her after a previous denial. I has my US Senator write a letter of support. I know it carries no "Official" weight but she was approved and about 15 minutes after the approval I received and email from my Senator's office congratulating my MIL on her visa approval so someone at the Embassy was paying enough attention to notify the Senator of the approval.

I think that being there did make a difference for me. The officer even said "You seem like an honest person so I guess I will take your word for it and grant a single entry visa". It just confirms what my mother always says that it is all about people and personalities and if the Officer gets a good feeling from you he or she has the power to approve that visa.
