The President has veto powers. Reagan was on board with this. And no, that's not what I was saying.

Of course he was on board with it Captain obvious, he signed it. he was wrong to do so. Obama was just as wrong to grant amnesty when he did ,

So are you saying Reagan was right and Obama was wrong. Or are you saying they are both right.

I am confused because your defense of Obama was Reagan did it also.

So you agree with Reagan ?

Obama granted amnesty? When? To whom? Can you share a link here that takes me to the relevant reporting? I must have missed it.

Now, Reagan did sign an amnesty bill and no, I do not think it was a great idea. The biggest issue I have with it is that nothing was done to ensure that years down the road we would not have the next wave of illegal migrants needing to be addressed in some way. And so we have the next wave sitting there and we got to figure out how to deal with that.

I've always been of the opinion that the most effective way to enforce immigration laws was to punish employers of illegal migrants so heavily that they will be forced out of business. No jobs, no illegal migration.

Yes! I think if we have no laws preventing people from sleeping with their mother-in-law, no matter how gross other people think it might be, we shouldn't have laws barring two loving responsible same sex adults from building a life together, no matter how gross other people think it might be.

There isn't a movement in the United States to prevent to people of the same gender to "build a life together." There is not even a movement to prevent them to enter a legal union with one another. What opponents of same sex marriage don't like is to extend the idea of marriage to a same sex couple.

The problem here is that "marriage" transcends the legal aspect in that it enters the religious realm and the associated notion of procreation. The terms husband and wife come to mind, a male and a female who anatomically fit together like a Lego game and become one union. Husband and husband or wife and wife doesn't really fit this notion. It's not a Christian thing alone. It's the same in Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and even Buddhism. If these religions have one thing in common, it's the rejection of a man humping another man anally and blessing this as a religious act.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Yes, I understand the issue. But there are extant laws that do prevent same sex people from building a life together. There is no way in many states to visit your loved one in the hospital on their death bed because you are not married (but there are laws for common law heterosexual marriages that would allow this if the couple has cohabited long enough). There is no way to bring your loved one from abroad if you are a same sex couple. Adoption laws are also stacked against same-sex couples. I never said there was a movement, but laws in place that prevent this.

Oh no do you mean homosexuals are having trouble adopting little children? Say it aint so harpo.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Why shouldn't a stable, long-term couple with good jobs and love to give have children? They can make their own children, so why can't they adopt a child who needs a home instead of making a new kid, say, through a surrogate?

Your asking me? I would get a ban for sure if I posted all the reasons against that. Of course I'm from the time when Christmas shows for kids showing heterosexual couples were the thing. That was when Dad was a man, and Mom was a woman. How times have changed...

Those are still "the thing." Long live Rudolph Claymation!

This will not affect Christmas shows for kids, really. It's all right. The vast majority of households have and will have heterosexual parents and that will not change. Nothing bad will happen. I think when kids who live on the street and need a loving home find one, it's a good thing.

Here's some "Modern Family." Even Ann Romney likes this show. It also has an old guy with a young foreign wife. Everyone can relate!

Ya every kid should be able to wake up in the morning and see their dad kiss their mom dad. Perfectly normal right? Meanwhile back on planet earth...

As far as the older American guy married to the hot sexy young foreign chick in that link you posted well can you blame him? I think every older single American male should have themselves a hot young sexy foreign wife to help keep him entertained nights.

The irony about this, is that for many red blooded Americans who subscribed and endorsed the doctrine of McCarthyism, who were brought up in the times to which you refer, the very notion of marrying a foreigner, in particular those emigrating for certain countries, would be akin to your views on same-sex marriage.

Indeed, how times have changed, moreover how many have forgotten the witchhunts that took place during those good old times.

My wife went through the legal US immigration process. She didn't knowingly and willingly run across the border with her and her 8 children and then expect a free ride from USCIS afterwards. I'm sorry you can't see the difference in that. In fact it makes me surprised you would post something like that on a site for legal immigration process to the USA. It makes me wonder if you actually had any experience with the USCIS.

So yo agree Reagan and Obama were both wrong to give illegals the right to stay in America. ?

Some people are having a hard time realizing their own country is leaving them in the dust. The majority of us are able to live and let live, and accept that a nation is evolving and that not everybody is so close minded or ignorant as they are. So when things like Tuesday happen, and people vote in FAVOR of same sex marriage, it completely ruins the little bubble they live in. It'll take them awhile to recover. At least Tuesday taught us that these people ARE the minority now. And luckily their misguided opinions don't matter to anyone but themselves.

And some people are having a hard time remembering who built this country and what made it the once great country it used to be. If you think things are better now than they were 30 years ago then think again. Rome was once great and we all know why and how that one came to end.
