Reagan deserves some credit for sure but not all of it. There were a number of leaders that paved the way. Here are the main ones as I see it.

Why would you post pics of Communist and their spies? Tell me what West German government wasn't riddled with commie loving spies? Not one. And let's not forget your other two Russian loving prime ministers as in Gearhart Shroeder and Merkel. Even the Duetsche Bank is anti democracy. It's the same bank who helps funnel funds to the Stalin loving dictator of Belarus via it's Moscow branch.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Gerhard Schröder

Gazprom

As Chancellor, Gerhard Schröder was a strong advocate of the Nord Stream pipeline project, which aims to supply Russian gas directly to Germany, thereby bypassing transit countries. The agreement to build the pipeline was signed two weeks before the German parliamentary election. On 24 October 2005, just a few weeks before Schröder stepped down as Chancellor, the German government guaranteed to cover 1 billion euros of the Nord Stream project cost, should Gazprom default on a loan. However, this guarantee had never been used.[16] Soon after stepping down as chancellor, Schröder accepted Gazprom's nomination for the post of the head of the shareholders' committee of Nord Stream AG, raising questions about a potential conflict of interest. German opposition parties expressed concern over the issue, as did the governments of countries over whose territory gas is currently pumped.[17] In an editorial entitled Gerhard Schroeder's Sellout, the American newspaper The Washington Post also expressed sharp criticism, reflecting widening international ramifications of Schröder's new post.[18] Democrat Tom Lantos, chairman of the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs, likened Schröder to a "political prostitute" for his recent behaviour.[19] In January 2009, the Wall Street Journal reported that Schröder would join the board of the oil company TNK-BP, a joint venture between oil major BP and Russian partners.[20]

Dispute over Estonian war memorial

During a heated dispute between Russia and Estonia in May 2007 over the removal of a Soviet-era war memorial from the centre of the Estonian capital Tallinn to a military cemetery, Schröder defended the Kremlin's reaction. He remarked that Estonia had contradicted "every form of civilised behaviour".[22] Consequently, the Estonian government cancelled a planned visit by Schröder in his function as chairman of Nord Stream AG.

Deutsche Bank Russia and BPS-Bank sign Memorandum of Understanding

Today BPS-Bank, a member of Sberbank of Russia Group since last year, and Deutsche Bank Russia, a member of Deutsche Bank Group, announced the intention to co-operate in corporate and investment banking transactions in the Republic of Belarus.

The co-operation between the banks will be focused on corporate finance, capital markets and structured trade and export finance.

The Memorandum of Understanding between BPS-Bank and Deutsche Bank Russia was signed at the Belarusian Investment Forum in Frankfurt-am-Main in the Euro Finance Week taking place on November 15-19, 2010.

The document stipulates close interaction between the banks in order to meet financial and advisory demands of the rapidly growing economy of the Republic of Belarus with its large-scale investment plans. Both banks recognize the potential synergies in their strengths and wish to leverage off them where appropriate.

"The Belarusian economy undergoes considerable growth at the moment, and BPS-Bank, being one of the systemically important banks of the country, contributes to growth and development of the national economy in general. Together with Deutsche Bank we shall seek and implement favourable opportunities in the sphere of corporate finance and advisory, work on placement of securities in capital markets, and structure export and import transactions in the Belarusian market," says Vasili S. Matyushevski, Chairman of the Board of BPS-Bank.

Joerg Bongartz, Chairman of the Board of Deutsche Bank Ltd. in Russia, commented: “We are pleased to have such a significant partner in Belarus as BPS-Bank. We are confident that our deep expertise in the region and the new investment opportunities offered by Belarus today will create a profitable partnership which allows foreign investment streams to Belarus and giving local companies access to global markets. While our joint efforts will benefit both organizations, the real winners will be BPS-Bank’s and Deutsche Bank’s clients”.

Can you point out where I posted a picture of Schroeder, Merkel or any DB functionary? Look, you're obviously uninformed about post WWII German history and that's okay. To deny that Brandt, Bahr, Schmidt, Kohl and Genscher had played significant roles over several decades that kept the doors open and paved the path to the eventual re-unification of Germany is a display of utter ignorance of what transpired in Germany in those years where the country was artificially divided into two. There's no denying either that both Reagan and Gorbatchev as well as the elder Bush played key roles in the process. But they didn't do it alone and Reagan certainly didn't do it all by himself. Now, it's up to you to let that ignorance hang out. Go for it.

Willy Brandt

Brandt resigned as Chancellor in 1974, after Günter Guillaume, one of his closest aides, was exposed as an agent of the Stasi, the East German secret service.

As Chancellor, Brandt developed his Neue Ostpolitik (New Eastern Policy). Brandt was active in creating a degree of rapprochement with East Germany, and also in improving relations with the Soviet Union, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and other Eastern Bloc (communist) countries.

I'm well aware of that and yet, it has no bearing on Brandt's critical contribution that eventually led to Germany being re-united. Brandt did more for the post-war reconciliation of Germany with it's European neighbors than any other political leader. He was one of the last great leaders in Germany. As were Bahr, Schmidt, Kohl and Genscher. There haven't been many - if any - since. The fact that the Stasi went after Brandt demonstrates more clearly than anything that the East German government considered him and his "Ostpolitik" to be a threat to the regime.

Your point? The executive action Obama took in regards to certain young people isn't even close to the sell-out (if that's what you want to call it) that Reagan undertook. But Reagan is a saint, yes?

Your right what Reagan did was BS. So because he was wrong. It makes it ok for Obama. You libs always retreat to the somebody else did it also defense when you have no defense

I voted for Obama but I do not favor the dream act. My issue is that I do not believe someone who came here illegally should be entitled to better benefits than someone who did not break the law. My daughter graduated from college in May. I paid for her education since she did not qualify for any grants. My son is in school now and we are paying his tuition as well. I am in the middle class and have worked full time since I was 15 years old. Why should someone get to sneak into the country or overstay (however else they wound up here without a valid visa)be able to send their offspring to college for free? I welcome all legal immigrants but have no tolerance for the ones who are illegals. I see them as being no different than any other criminals. Since they do not get a vote I'm not sure how it would help the vote.

That's not at all what I have been saying. But thanks for playing.

I will also point out Reagen's bill was passed by both Houses and signed by law. BTW that is exactly what you were saying.

Latino groups to Obama: You owe us, now pass the Dream Act

By Liz Goodwin, Yahoo! News | The Ticket – 5 hrs ago

In initially off-the-record comments to the Des Moines Register's editors in October, President Barack Obama said that if he won re-election, he would owe it to Latinos.

"Should I win a second term," Obama said, "a big reason I will win a second term is because the Republican nominee and the Republican Party have so alienated the fastest-growing demographic group in the country, the Latino community."

Exit polls show the president's prediction was on the mark.

The national exit poll estimated that about 10 percent of those who voted in the presidential election identified as Hispanic, marking Latinos' highest-ever share of the electorate. Latinos backed Obama over challenger Mitt Romney a resounding 71 to 27 percent.

Gary Segura, a pollster for Latino Decisions and a professor at Stanford University, told reporters on Wednesday that he believes the exit poll understated Latinos' support for Obama by 4 points, and that the president actually won 75 percent of their vote.

Segura estimates that Latinos gave Obama an extra 2.3 percentage points in the popular vote. If Romney had managed to nab just 35 percent of Latinos, he would have won the popular vote, Segura said. (President George W. Bush captured at least that share of Latinos in 2000 and 2004, showing Republicans are backsliding with the group.)

Leaders of immigrant rights and Latino groups told reporters in a conference call on Wednesday that Obama owes his second term to Latino voters, and should repay them by passing comprehensive immigration reform. Obama promised to pass a law legalizing many of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the country while he campaigned four years ago, and he's been chastised by Latino leaders for breaking his promise.

"Obama is going to return to the White House more energized to take these issues seriously," said Ben Monterroso, the director of Mi Familia Vota, a national organization that encourages Latinos to vote.

Eliseo Medina, secretary-treasurer of the Service Employees International Union, said Latino voters had sent a message to Obama. "We expect leadership on comprehensive immigration reform in 2013," he said. "To both sides we say: 'No more excuses.'"

The heavy pro-Obama Latino vote also sends a message to the Republican Party, which needs to make inroads in the fast-growing Hispanic community to survive. Ana Navarro, a Miami-based Republican political strategist who had warned Republicans to take a softer tone on immigration if they wanted to win the election, wrote on Twitter that gaining only 27 percent of the Latino vote is a "disgrace."

Most Latino voters said in the Latino Decisions poll that the most important issues to them in this election were the economy and jobs. Thirty-five percent of the voters listed immigration reform as their key issue.

"Our party needs to realize that it's too old and too white and too male, and it needs to figure out how to catch up with the demographics of the country before it's too late," Al Cardenas, the head of the American Conservative Union, told Politico. "Our party needs a lot of work to do if we expect to be competitive in the near future."
