Hi,

I'm in a weired situation and honestly don't know what to do.

My interview is comin up next week and i applied on marriage base, for proofs i sent my son's birth certificate with my package.

last month i applied his passport and usps holded his original bc along with the application.

my interview letter says bring all the originals for the copies you sent with.

now what am i suppose to do ? as i'm not going to get his bc back for a few more weeks.

can i just take the application reciept for my son's passport application and show it to the officer and tell him usps took it ?

or i'm in trouble ?

like is there any possibility they can call me back for original bc ?

or do i need to go to post office and get a letter stating that they have my son's original bc ? (i'm not sure they'll give it to me)

please suggest.

regards.

I was in a similar situation, but if you look for state Vital record department you can apply for another certified birth certificate, that's what I did and actually applied for 3 and they cost me about $20 if I remember correctly. In Pittsburgh PA it took 3 days to get them.

not sure where you are located but here is one for NYC for exampl. Just do a google search: "apply for birth certificate in your state or city"!

Good luck!

It all depends on when you applied for the passport. When I applied for my daughter, I received the documents within 10 days followed by the passport. And USCIS office knows that for first time issuance of passports, these documents are submitted in original. If you have not received them back, its not your fault and you wont be held against you. Take your passport application receipt as proof. Worst case, they will hold your case and ask you to submit the documents when you get them. But if you applied a week or two before, I have a feeling you'll receive the BC before the interview date. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Don't bother running around for duplicates. Especially when another storm has just hit us and I can see what seems to be a slushy sleet outside my window. Good Luck!

good point PathaN didn't think about the storm. in my situation I had to apply for another certified copy because my embassy kept the copy I sent them. I applied for expedite passport for my son, passport came in like 8 days and birth certificate came like 3 days after that! good luck.
