Hello Everyone,

First off, I'm very thankful for this website! So many answers and knowledge is on here.

Well I've been trying to weigh in a lot on the pros/cons of the K1 vs a K3 visa.

Me and my Fiance are not married yet. We haven't begun any paperwork for either visa because we are trying to decide whether to get married first or do the K1 fiance visa.

I'm from California and she is from Switzerland (Geneva area). The Pros to me which stands out on the K3 is it seems she gets a greencard rather quickly, and is eligible to work quicker then a K1 would allow? (correct me if I'm misstaken) Also her being able to travel back to Switzerland while waiting for other approvals to visit family is important to, which is another pro of the K3 compared to the K1 I see..

This is rather important because I'm a low income worker & Freelancer so her being able to work within the first year would help us both greatly.

Time isn't a huge factor as we are both willing to wait a few extra months in order to start this off easier possibly. I still have much to read about but any suggestions or corrections if I'm wrong would be so greatly appreciated!

Look forward to posting a timeline soon and conversing with everyone :-)

Welcome to the forum.

For a contemporary look, review K-1 (fiancee) visa and IR-1/CR-1 (spousal) visa processes. The K-3 is basically obsolete and is administratively closed at this time. The visa comparison chart, easily accessible through the "Guides" button, located at the top of the forum page, is a good starting point for the newcomer to the visa journey process.

Good luck on your visa journey.

Thanks A&B!

Yea I'm definitely refereeing to the CR1 process then. I'll read up some more and see if I have more questions I'll post here :-)
