she would rather have a gift card Mrs. T-B. initially liked gift cards, but now she prefers cash, which is even more flexible. At her last birthday, I gave her a mushy card with a $50 bill inside. The following dialogue ensued:

T-B. [presenting card[: Happy birthday, Cariño [sweetheart].

Mrs. T-B.: Oh, Cariño! I love my card!

T-B.: What does it say that you like the best?

Mrs. T-B.: It says "$50"!
