If the tax cuts lapse entirely, say hello to a new, and deeper recession. Say hello to deficits galloping past $20 trillion. Say hello to a cultural divide that will rapidly become irreparable.

Both sides need to learn to compromise, or the impasse will cripple the country.

Sure but that compromise will not include a 35% top income tax rate.

Congratulations to president Obama.

I hope the congress will put aside the bipartisanship for now and work to go forward.

The president has been working really hard to be bipartisan (I think you mean partisan) but the Republicans move to the right and refuse to work with him. Obamacare was a republican idea for pete's sake, and all they can do is find a way to make it evil, when it was their own idea.

Dude, seriously don't be that naive to think it's the Republicans only who have issues here.

The house has sent a ####### load of bills to the senate, and Harry Reid refuses to bring them up for a vote. BOTH parties are equally responsible for not working together. Stop listening to the mainstream media garbage and turn on C-Span every once in awhile.

Even so, all things are not equal. Instead of working towards compromise, the minority Republicans in congress have tried to dictate policy for the last 4 years. Instead of becoming more inclusivist, the party has begun moving to the extreme right.

Thats the biggest reason I didn't want to see Republicans win today. They shouldn't be rewarded for their piss poor efforts. It would set a bad precedent. They were not elected to take the ball and go home for 4 years.

Really, is that how the Democrats sold us down the river to corporate America with Obamacare?

Republicans have sent partisan bills to the Senate which were destined to die there. Obamacare, on the other hand, it pretty much a copy of the Republican health care reform proposal of 1993. It was developed by the Heritage foundation and promoted by Republicans in Congress. When it came back to Congress as the Affordable Care Act, it was the worst piece of legislation ever, a slippery slope to communism and all. And yet, it was a product of the Republican party and it's think tanks. That's dishonesty at a different level.

And if that's what happened - if that's all that happened, it may have been a different story today.

It's not all black and white. If you want to, go ahead and make the case that the last 4 years has been one big screw up. Then on balance, people obviously decided today which party was more reponsible for that.

Speaking of Obamacare, some Republicans in congress are now taking the position that they don't want to get rid of universal health care. Now they just want to get rid of "Obamacare" and pass their own "good" health care bill. Really? Do you know when the perfect time would have been to come together on a "good" health care bill?

The bottom line was they didn't care about a health care bill. They put everything into stopping it because they didn't want Obama to be able to say he accomplished anything. Even then, the main focus of the Republicans was on making Obama a 1 term president.

So what did that accomplish. Instead of a "good" health care bill and 4 more years of Obama, we got a poor health care bill and 4 more years of Obama. Great job guys. Now let's see if anyone has learned anything.

The problem is, Obamacare isn't a health care bill at all.... It's a meal ticket for pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, corporate health care providers, the IRS, etc... Throw a few choice language piece in there to make it sound like it's a good thing to get people to buy it. It's a joke.

My point is not whether you like how Obamacare turned out or not, but that most people recognize that it turned out the way it did due to the actions of both parties. And in a way, it's a microcosm for the whole term.

The Republicans gambled and lost. As I said, hopefully they learned from that or it's going to be a long 4 years.

If he'd voted democrat it would have been the only way he'd have won here. We got rid of the mistake that was Scott Brown and we are 100% blue again.

Why do you think Scott Brown was a mistake? He did what he said he'd do. He was quite bipartisan, something that we desperately need in Washington. Remember, it's about the people, not the party.
