Has anyone come to the US on an 0-1?

Just curious! Have any of you ever received an 0-1 artist's visa? My friend is applying for it, but is scared his portfolio of work isn't going to be "exceptional enough."

Questions:

- What is the exact criteria that you are judged on?

- If the company makes a compelling argument as to why they need you, is that enough? How much does the portfolio of work matter? It's all subjective, isn't it?

- How long does the process usually take? From when you submit your application to when you hear about whether you are approved or not?

Thanks!

A question best asked of the lawyer handling the case. I have seen it mentooned. Seems presentation is key in less obvious cases.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

His lawyer seems to think he has a chance. He's been working all day long for weeks trying to put his portfolio together and reach out to people for letters of recommendation. I guess, as an outsider to this visa, it just seems like the whole thing is pretty subjective. Someone may be "of extraordinary" talent to one person, but not to another ... so I guess I'm just wondering how exactly a submission for this type of visa is critiqued and decided upon. Is the approval process super in depth?

My personal way of telling: Google.

Type in your friend's name and his art, i.e., "Hugh Grant actor" and if your friend's bio comes up as listing number 1 or 2, she has a chance to get her 0-1.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Very interesting. Thanks. :)

Well, he's the only one in the world with his name apparently, so when you Google him, he is the only one who comes up. His IMDB page, quotes from interviews he's done about previous projects he's worked on, his Linked In page, etc. What other types of results would they be looking for?
