Which Visa Does My Wife Need? How Do We Go About Getting It?

Hi,

I've been trying to get information on this for awhile now. Please forgive me if I posted in the wrong section or if I should be going about this a different way.

My name is Alex, and I am a Natural-born citizen of the US. I came to Peru in 2009 to do Preaching work, and ended up meeting my wife while here. We were engaged in 2010. I went back to the states in early 2011, but then came back later that same year and married in September 2011 in Peru. She is a natural born Peruvian. I have been living here with her since we've been married.

I want to take her to the US so she can experience a lot of the things that they dont have here, but most important is that I want her to meet my family. Our stay would only be a few months, 2-4.

I have been reading a lot about how to get her visa, and we were considering applying for a B-2 non-immigrant tourist visa. However, I was curious as to if there was a better, faster, or easier way to go about getting her a visa considering that we're legally married and I'm a US citizen. I read that a 'DCF' Visa can be a fast way to go about it, however I have to be a Legal Resident of Peru, which i am not (i'm on a 6 month visa, and i cross the border and then come back in to 'renew' my visa every 6 months).

So my question is: Considering our situation, which visa should we apply for? And how do I go about applying? (Online, over the phone, etc)

I would also appreciate hearing experiences from other people in a similar situation.

THANKS!!

If you are looking to visit for 2-4 months then a tourist visa is your way to go

Are you looking to immigrate? Then a spousal, Cr1, immigrant visa is the way to go

Fast? Sorry, nothing to do with the US government is fast but the fastest of your options is the tourist visa, but it is not for immigrating

Good luck

Wow thanks for the fast response!

Ok, how do I go about doing this? Online? Do you have any tips that might make give her a better chance of being accepted? I heard that it helps if she has a note saying she has a job waiting for her when she comes back, and perhaps proof of owning property or something. Is this true?

Thanks again!

Visiting the US with a USC husband, she'll have to overcome the presumed immigrant intent. So what ties does she have to Peru? You do not have many ties to Peru since you are a visitor there.

Here is the VJ guide for tourist visas

B-2 tourist visa is the only appropriate visa for what you're planning. Unfortunately, there is no faster way to apply for it.

You can apply online here US Embassy Lima.

DCF isn't a visa, but rather a way in which to apply for a CR-1 spousal visa for her to move to the US permanently. By filing DCF for a spousal visa (CR-1) you file directly with the embassy/consulate rather than through the USCIS in the US. This is often much faster (a few months, rather than 6 - 9 months) when it comes to spousal visas.
