Hi guys,

I have been away for a while from VJ waiting for NVC to give my Mom an appointment. But right now the question that i ask from myself everyday is what type of work she can find that is convenient for her age. She in a retired material engineer and her level of english in high intermediate.

The first things comes into my mind for her is to work in a grocery store as a clerk arranging the stuffs in their own place, but considering her age and that she is not a sportive woman, I'm sure she can't tolerate that much physical work. I have never been a cashier but my assumption is that, the person should be very cautious & precise.

in the other hand, she is not at ease with office programs such as word, excel,... so finding an office job may be difficult.

Maybe she can take some short-term special classes(less than 4 months) to have a diploma to work with in an industry.

I appreciate your thoughts and ideas

any concrete plants in your county? Steel Plants ? They use material engineers on a regular basis.

Alternatively, so does a huge food processing facility. any of those in yer county ?

she could probably teach mathematics at a local 2 year college, yes?

At the age of 63 looking fo a job is a moot point. Chances are no one will be hiring her so I am not sure why you'll, would be trying to find a job.

I think the best way to be integrated in a society is to work in it. it can be any type of job, the point is you see other people, the way they behave, their culture, and you don't get bored staying at home watching TV.

She could teach mathematics at a elementary school child. Her level of english is not good enough to teach to a higher level in the filed of maths.

Do you think she can have a chance to be hired even for a short period in her field at this age, i have doubt.

Her best option is as a translator or teacher for the highest pay. Courts, schools and hospitals are always looking for translator services. You can even contract with a company and she can work from home. I suspect if she can't find a regular teaching position in mathmatics she can substitute teach to get her foot in the door. Otherwise I'd look for low intensity clerical work in an office setting or perhaps a cashier at a store or even a Walmart greeter.
