Hello all, this is a little bit of relavant information about DCF in Jakarta. It may have value at other embassies and hopefully other will have the wonderful experience we had. A little background. My wife and I have been married for 3.5 years with one son. We decided not to immigrate to the US until he was 2 years old which will be in March.

I decided to go this week to the embassy in Jakarta on Friday the 27th of October to file the I130 and was prepared to wait a few months to get it approved. I was quite shocked when the consul staff gave a short interview and approved the I130 on the spot. She then gave us the list of supporting documents for the IR1 visa also the directions for the medical exam, which we did that same afternoon. The embassy recvd the med exam on Monday the 30th. We were already prepared with her police report and went back to the embassy on Tues the 31st of October and turned over all of our documentation. They intially scheduled her interview for the 7th of November but I asked if it was possible for anything earlier. The officer said, "how about tomorrow, Nov 1st." As you can imagine we were dumbfounded about how fast this is going since we were prepared to wait for several months and not hours. This morning we brought our bright shiny faces to the embassy at the scheduled time of 0800. We paid our 380 dollars and the interview started at 0815. At 0825 we were finished after only a few very irrelavant questions. The passport was surrendered and we were told to pick up the passport with visa and her packet tomorrow. I hope that anyone who is planning to file with an Indonesian relative can pay attention to this and do a DCF at Jakarta. I did not notice any other couples that were applying along with us at the same time on any of the days we were there.

But, as I am writing this, I am still shocked how easy it has been after hearing about other peoples problems. DCF is definetly the way to go if it is possible for anyone.

  • 2 months later...

i can first-hand confirm the painless nature of DCF at Jakarta.. it was far more painful to get the marriage certificate.. grease some wheels to make sure you get that turned around quickly.. i got my certificate on the day my visa expired! you do not want to have that kinda stress!

Get all the files via email from the embassy to submit with the I-130 and things will go very smooth and fast!
