I became a Naturalized US Citizen on February 4th of 2011 and today I voted for the first time. I hope my vote was enough to give the President another 4 years in the office. I must say it felt so good and gave me so much pride and made everything that I went through to get to my Naturalization all worth it.

So for those going through the process of trying to get your citizenship, hang in there. Soon you will be voting too :)

All the best everyone :) :)

Stepdaughter on her own initiative registered and voted. Finally growing up and taking an interest in her new country, that made me proud of her.

Wife and stepdaughter could have also voted in their home country recent election, but taking two days off of work and driving 700 miles was a bit too much. Then since the consulate members were appointed by the incumbent president, if they voted against him, odds are in his favor, their votes would have ended up in a trashcan.

Yes, they have to maintain citizenship in their own countries, only way they can visit their family there. Not their choice, was made for them by an agreement between our DOS and their government. DOS says they don't like this, but will allow it calling it dual naturalization, even though they are the cause of it. Does leave a very uncomfortable feeling. Something I don't like about our government, certainly sounds hypocritical.

None of their family can come here to visit us, they aren't rich enough. Statue of Liberty should say, bring me your rich, not your poor like it does say.
