Obtaining AP through Infopass appt

Theres a lot of mention in the forums about being able to obtain AP documents through an infopass appt, but I was wondering if anyone here had successfully done so, or could link me to a thread detailing someones experience in doing so.

My husband entered on a K1 visa. We were married and submitted his 485 on Oct 1. We also submitted his EAD and AP paperwork. (The reasons we provided for AP were that he had 'official government business' regarding his pension and real estate transactions in his previous home country that he had to attend to in person, and we attached a letter from his government requiring his mandatory in person attendance at said meetings) We were aware that it would take several months to get the EAD/AP combo card in the mail and were fine with that. However in the last week his father became seriously ill/hospitalized and it has become necessary for my husband to return home.

So we made and infopass appt to try to file for emergency AP in person. We obtained a medical letter, as well as wrote a new letter ourselves explaining the new circumstances.

It was not quite what I expected.

The rep first started out by saying 'this is not how AP works' He said we already filed and had to wait. When I insisted, he then pulled out the 'expedited' list and said only things on that list qualify to be expedited. I told him we were on that list as I had a medical letter... He took our paperwork in the back and returned a few moments later and said that since we had an AP application pending already, were not filling out a new application, just attempting to expedite our exsisting one, so what he does is give the medical letter along with our letter to his supervisor, who then gives it to his supervisor for approval. Once they all approve it- they forward it to the service center who makes a decision. He said it could take up to 7 days for them to make a decision and then 2-3 days for them to mail the 'card' or AP paperwork if its approved.

So overall were looking at 10 days from the date of the infopass appt. I dont know why, but I thought from reading other posts that people were able to receive their AP immediately at their infopass appts?

Well two days after the info pass apt we received a phone call from the local office (from the rep who 'helped' us, saying that the application to expedite my husbands AP was approved by the local office (meaning by both supervisors there) and it was just now being forwarded to MSC...

So I assume the 7 days for them to make a decision starts now.

He also said if they (MSC) approve it, it would take an additional 2-3 days to receive the card/papers in the mail. So overall an additional 10 days to see if its approved.

I mean I guess compared to the normal processing time of 2-3 months this is faster- But for goodness sakes, I gave them a letter saying the man is dying and has a few days to live and this is the expedited process? 14 days?

A fellow Aussie applied for expedited AP and showed proof her father was not much longer for this earth, and got the same response as you. her AP was expedited but didn't arrive until the day of his funeral.

I am still having major problems with this and would appreciate any input. To recap-

-On Nov 5 we went to an infopass apt to expedite the previously filed I-131 (originally filed Oct 4)

-On Nov 5 also had biometrics done (not because infopass requested it, just because we had a biometrics appt that week for the 485 and did an early walk in)

-Nov 7th received a letter (standard form letter from local service center where the infopass apt was) box was checked that stated application to expedite was 'approved' at the local office and was being forwarded to MSC for processing. Was told by the infopass employee that MSC processing would take 7-10 days + 2-3 days mail time.

-Nov 26 called to find out why we havent received anything yet. Spoke to a tier 2 rep who said they didnt see 'anything' on the case in the computer except the fact that we did the biometrics on the 5th. Said they are putting in a service request and we should receive something in the mail by the end of the week, however they didnt say what... a confirmation of the service request perhaps?

So what should we do now? make another infopass appt? wait to see what we get in the mail this week?
