When I applied for passport in 2008, I was never asked for a photo ID. What I had was NSO certified BC from the local registry, NSO BC, NBI, Police Clearance, Baptismal certificate and school records to prove my identity.

Do they require photo ID now???

Is she having issue with name spelling? The solution to that is get verification from NSO. When I applied for a passport, the dude was too eh that he thinks the "G" was a "C" and asked me to go to the NSO to get verification. Went to the nearest NSO and asked for one (no charge in 2008, not sure now) and I submitted it and they accepted it.

What DFA office is this? Government employees in the Philippines are not always known to be honest. On an unrelated case, I knew of someone who had a US father and was a US citizsen but born to a Pinay mother and born and lived in the Philippines. The asses in BI wanted her to pay "overstaying" fee. Told her to just go to the DFA and get a Philippinoe passport since she is considered a Philippine citizen by birth.

BI is just doing it's job. One only needs to show original copy of Report of Birth Abroad ( if born abroad) or NSO Birth certificate or Philippine passport to show proof of Philippine Citizenship. Didn't he/she showed them at least the BC?

Hey Everyone - Thanks for the Suggestions and tips.

So FYI - She went in with Birth Cert and other docs including pic ID's but no govt issue ID with Picture

So 1) she is applying for a drivers lic - that looks like it will be the fastest way to get an acceptable ID

2) Checkiing with driving schools to see what is necessary to get the "real" one and not the learners permit

3) talking to travel agent about how to get help on the passport...

Well it is a delay - things were going too smooth before :-)

Again Thanks to everyone's suggestion

Dale

In the case I presented, they were not doing their job. They were conning her money. Anyone born in the Philippines to a Filipino mother is a citizen. The girl I was talking about was born 1988. In the 1987 constitution, anyone born to a Filipino parent IS a Philippine citizen. Therefore, no need to pay for "overstaying penalty".

She did show them, but they emphasized on her US citizenship.

Actually, the whole story was the BI was selling some "attorney's services" to expedite her "case". Estimated cost? Php20,000

Personally, I would not suggest using a travel agency. Maybe, she could check requirements with them but it's not really a good route to get passport through them since you're just paying extra bucks for nothing. I almost used one when I applied for my passport but acquiring a passport by yourself is more straightforward.

In CEBU- from my experience, renewal/1st time applicants (w/o travel agency), one has to line up at 3-4am in Mandaue jst to get a priority number. I forgot if its only 100 persons/day, Morning only. Much cheaper though.

AFTERNOON (2pm onwards)- were for those w/ travel agency. I think 10 persons/agency. No need to wake up early since the agency will be the one to arrange your schedule. Expensive but works for me because I hate waiting/linig up so early.

That is one of the reasons why travel agencies can no longer assist in passport processing after December2012 'coz DFA-CEBU received ENORMOUS complaints (accdg to local news) that applicants w/ agencies were given more priority.

Your choice really..=)

I agree. Getting a passport nowadays is very easy compared to how it was years ago. Now, you just schedule an appointment online, just be there with the necessary requirements which are all listed on the website. I got my first passport in 2004, and I was at the old DFA Manila office as early as 6AM. Even then I didn't use a travel agency because it only meant paying more when I can actually do things on my own.

Well just as everything was going fine (Embassy has my paperwork and she needs to schedual her medical / interview) we ran into this problem - anyone have suggestions??

Well she had to get her marriage certificate to her dead husband spelling corrected - go that went to get passport - and was told she needed 2 photo ID's

well she only has one that they are accepting, she needs a SSS id (has a non photo one as I understand it) and now needs to get the photo version. However in the nearest town (Lucena) they say 2-6 months to get it.... she says she called the Manila head offices and was told the same...

So at this point stuck waiting on her getting her passport - any suggestions as to how she can get the ID card necessary?

Thanks

This is weird...on this site it says at least 1 photo ID... http://passport.com.ph/requirements#acceptable_ids
