I respect the right of a woman to bring to term a pregnancy resulting from rape. I also respect her right to terminate such a pregnancy. It is a woman's individual decision, and people should be ashamed of trying to coerce a rape victim into choosing either path.

Well said.

If a woman feels that is the right choice for her, then so be it. Good for her. She's capable of something I know I wouldn't be. If a woman decides it's not something that she can or wants to handle, then I completely understand that too.

What I don't understand are the people who think they should make those decisions for her.

I just came across this vid and since we had been discussing the topic a few days ago I thought I would post it, mostly to show these traumatic experiences are more complicated than perhaps most of us understand.

For some people they regret getting the abortion, they feel it compounded the long term effects.

Others are quite sure it was the best course of action under the circumstances.

That's going to be the general response when it comes to such an important decision. Some people will regret, some people won't. Same for people who give their children up for adoption. Some wish they had never done it, some think it was the best thing they could have done.

It all comes down to choice, and that's what it is. A personal choice that you, or I, or the government have no place in.

Completely agreed. I don't doubt there are women who found their abortions traumatic, regretful experiences. I dislike anti-choice people trotting these women's anecdotes out to show that because some find it regretful, many will. And I also feel pro-choice activists can sometimes be dismissive of women who don't just chug along with their lives and think that abortion was an uncomplicated decision. Individuals making decisions about their own healthcare and family lives is something we should support in this country. :)

NOw see, there you went too far.

The Gov't does have a place... right now, today, it's law.

Simply being pregnant due to a rape does not allow you to by pass perimeters around abortion.

For instance lets say a women waits 8 months to have the abortion or even 9 months, the law controls this much more tightly that if she had it done the first week.

What would you say.... should a women the week of her due-date have the right to destroy that baby in the same way she could in the first week?

Let me give you a hint.

The Supreme court recognizes rights, ALL RIGHTS can be controlled or limited in three ways.

TIME

PLACE

MANNER

Example: You have the right to free speech but not at 2am (time) or with a bull horn (manner) an you can't speak just anywhere such as you can't just stand up in court and make a speech. (PLace).

I believe you are picking apart semantics. The government has mandated that it is a woman's right to choose if she wants an abortion or not. It's a fact, it's done. Those who do not agree, do not need to have an abortion, however, if a woman chooses to, she should not be persecuted.

So you want less government, unless they're in the lives of people making decisions you don't agree with. I understand now. :)

The government has specific rolls to play and those rolls are different at different levels of Gov't.

But forget all that pretend for just a minute you are not a Lib :P and answer the question.
