as we say around here.... le bonton roulet!

ooof that hurt me to read that.

Laisser le bon temps rouler.

Ooof indeed.

Ahem.

Laissez les bons temps rouler.

Boy howdy them

I believe they are both correct and used in French. Unless you want a direct translation of the English, in which case you need "les bons temps."

Either way, it's Cajun French, something I doubt EITHER of you speaks.

Ahem. Mindin' my own business here...

eta: "laissez" indeed

Wellllll.... don’t assume much, do you ?

Actually, you might be surprised to learn the languages and dialects in which I am fluent. ;)

Of course there’s no getting around the “laissez” part. As to the rest....

As mybackpages pointed out, Cajun French is not a separate language from standard French, but considered a dialect. Not at all the same case as, say, Jamaican patois (or shall we argue over whether it is spelled patwa ;) ) which is distinctly different in so many ways from its *partially* English roots.

There are certainly many Cajun speakers who have never had formal education in “proper” French spelling. This is the reason you may see “le bon temps” and other “non-standard” spellings in informal usage.

And there are certain terms which *always* use the unique “phonetic” spellings; for instance the word “Cajun” itself.

But most of the time, at least in print, “Cajun French” is spelled with standard French spellings. “Laissez les bons temps rouler” is the much more commonly found form of the phrase, especially in print, publications, signs, etc.

Anyway I think it's fine if you disagree. You don't have to mind your own business -- please drop by anytime -- you are welcome here !
