Hello Vj people,

I removed conditions with a waiver of abuse, extreme cruelty that i experienced from my USC husband. I got approved and got my 10yrs greencard.

I am in the process of divorce right now. On the papers of divorce i filed i asked to restore my maiden name.

**If the divorce decree ordered to restore my maiden name. Can I still use my husband name if I wanted to and wait until i apply for naturalization for the name change to avoid the cost?

** I was abused before I got my 10yr greencard and now divorcing, when should I apply for naturalization? should i count another 5yrs? or 3?

Please put some light on me.

Thanks

If it is like marriage, then you can use your maiden/married name as you wish, you just need to walk around with your divorce certificate or whatever it's called. In my case, I walk around with my marriage certificate to prove I'm both people.

Yes you should be able to keep your married name and change it later (I believe..) Check your state rules.

You got your GC based on VAWA? Then it's 3 years from being an LPR that you're eligible.
