Hello

I am a USA citizen married to filipina. I am looking for health insurance plans in the Philippines to possible cover my mother-in-law and stepchildren. Does Filipino whether in Philippines or abroad have any suggestion? I appreciate any information.

Thank you,

You can inquire from this website in the Philippines: http://www.bluecross.com.ph/index.php

Or you can inquire from PhilHealth in the Philippines. Blue cross is a little expensive, but PhilHealth only costs you $4.00 per month. This plan does not cover outpatient visits but covers only hospitalizations. Medical outpatient visits in the Philippines is cheap ($15 per visit in most western-standard clinics, and less for local standard clinics.

Hi Michael. Living there two times myself just make sure you read and understand the loop holes in the insurance policies. Blue Cross and Philam as one mentioned are your best options from my experience.

My suggestion is take the money you would spend on premiums and put it away for the rainy day insurance savings policy. Most generally for a local to get treatment the prices are reasonable from a western standpoint. Of course anything major would run you thousands just like here. While I lived in Cebu I went to a decent Doctor for about $6 a visit. The prescription costs for good meds would run 20-30 dollars. My fiancee's mother was ill recently and needed good meds as they were giving her the over the counter meds. I worried as she did not eat for a week so I sent my fiancee with money to get her taken care of. Less than 50 usd and she was back to normal.

My wife's mother was just in the hospital for 5 days for kidney infection. Had IV everyday. Only cost us about 300 US dollars for everything. Seniors also get a senior discount on everything in the Philippines now even hospitals. I think it's 20%.
